Jake Arrieta may have thrown his most precise ball since being called up to the majors when he tried to pick off Carl Crawford at first and hit him in the NUTS! Crawford went down immediately as if a sniper had just shot him. So just how many bases can you steal with some bruised plums? We shall see...

When I was in Babe Ruth Baseball (13-15 yo) I hit a single and was on first base. The kid batting behind me, Frank, got the sign to sacrifice me over to second. On the first pitch he squared around and took a fastball straight in the nuts . It was like he was on fire; stop, drop, and roll. Add in some crying and screaming and you can figure out that he wasn’t wearing a cup.



Frank ended up spending two nights in the hospital. The one thing I remember him telling me after the fact was that the doctor told him to try not to “get hard”. Can you imagine a 15 year old kid having his nuts checked every couple hours by a nurse and not getting hard?

Well, if we are going to tell nuts stories...



I'm a freshman in high school. At the end of the baseball season, I get called up to play to varsity to be in the state playoffs. In my first practice, I'm really, really nervous playing with the older guys. Someone hits a screaming line drive to center, the ball bounces a couple times in front of me, and when I go to grab it I pick up the mitt too soon. Square in the "plums". All the varsity guys are laughing at me, so not only does it feel like I will never reproduce, but I'm feeling as stupid as can be. I couldn't get up for 10 minutes.
