Moneyball has been discussed on this site so much, that it is not worth revisiting. What is though, is Billy Beane. How many teams can boast a rotation next season as good 1-5 as Cahill, Anderson, Gio Gonzalez, Braden and Mazzaro?

How many of those teams will have the same rotation under team control for as long as the A's do with these guys, at reasonable salaries?



How many have home grown all 5 of their rotation?

Well, Gio and BA were acquired in trades, so I guess not totally home grown.



Sure wish our offense looked even respectable, poor pitchers should have a ton of wins, instead they lose 2-1 every night.

Beane must not have had faith that these five would blossom or he wouldn't have signed Ben Sheets for 10 million during the off season.

Still a head scratcher of a signing.



The year before, Beane traded Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street, and Greg Smith for Matt Holliday.

After performing badly for the A's, Holliday was flipped for Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortenson, and Shane Peterson.

The short end for sure.



Beane's minor league system and scouting remains gold.

Free agent signings and trades as of late, not so much.

Sheets was a 10MIL lottery ticket he hoped he could cash in at the trade deadline, but it got left in his pocket and went through the clothes washer and could not be read so he had to throw it away.

Holliday was a flipper too.

If ever in the market to flip a house, Beane won't be getting a call from me.

Free agent signings and trades as of late, not so much. The Holliday deal bugs me daily, but you have to also look at the Haren deal recently too when they got Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Carter and Brett Anderson among others. Filthy.

surprising stat= anderson ( age 22) career is 14-15 with a 3.77 era in a very pitcher friendly park. buerle end of age 22 season 20-9 3.46 era in a very hitter friendly ballpark. also, at age 31, mark has yet to hit the dl. cust sayin'

True.

Trading Gonzalez took the oomph out of that trade.

Price, Hellickison, Neimann, Davis, Sonnastine (Garza and Shields)



Garza $3.35M

Shields $2.5M

Price $1.8M

Neimann $1M

Sonnastine, Hellickison, Davis $400K



Garza and Shields have 4 years of tenure. The Rays control the rest for a loooong time.
