"This is our debut season for the NFBC Auction Championship, a national contest that will tie in the results from Mixed Auction Leagues in all five cities. Cost is $800 per team with league prizes paying the top three spots and an overall grand prize of $15,000. These are 15-team, Mixed Auction Leagues."



So, why do the overall standings for the Auction Championship include teams from the $1300 leagues?

This was by special arrangement. In previous years, there was a "regular" group of New York players that enjoyed the private $1300 Mixed Auction League. In order to maintain the private nature of this league, we worked out a compromise where the first part of the $1300 entry fee went towards the overall auction championship. Then the remainder was kept internal for just this league.



I was not amongst the regulars, but since I was only able to draft in NYC and not Vegas as usual, I crashed the party. And based on my sorry-ass performance, no one is complaining.

So ... a competition that was supposed to be 'open' actually includes teams from a league that is, in effect, closed? Really?



Color me unimpressed.

Color me unimpressed. the $1,300 auction was open to anyone who wanted to join. if anything, the $1,300 league comprised much more experienced auction players than the typical $800 auction.

Color me unimpressed. The goal wasn't to impress you.



The goal was for Fanball management and a core group of NFBC veterans to work out a compromise, each side respecting the other. Imagine that.



The core group wanted to continue to play against a group they have played with for several years.



Fanball wanted to build its auction championship.



The compromise was if the core group could recruit ample owners to pay $1300, the league would dedicate the extra $500 to individual league.

Rationalize it any way you want, I find the inclusion of a closed league in an open competition to be odious.



As for the condescension in your first sentence ... well, I'm unimpressed :-þ

It was one league in New York with the same $850 going towards the auction championship and an additional fee adding to the league prize. We had one league in other cities and nobody is upset that only 15 owners had a chance to join that league, so how is this any different?



If anything, this league has more NFFC veterans than other auction leagues in this contest. We'd run the same time of contest next year if folks want to do higher league fees and prizes, while still keeping the auction championship intact.

As for cpt. crunch, get a life, this was an open league. And a much harder league than any $800 league so enjoy the contribution to the Auction championship

Which is exactly my point. I knew you guys both wanted him and I chose the non-dick approach and let you guys battle it out.



I know that sounds like an odd strategy, but it sometimes works in a quid pro quo sense for me.



I may as well where a T-shirt advertising the guys I like by the time the NFBC drafts come around.
