Strasburg - elbow pain. Nats should be thinking of his longterm future here. Probably done for year.



Wonder where he goes next year in draft if this was his last game this year.

Could Jordan Zimmerman be on his way back to the big show or will the Strasburg injury make the Nats want to handle Zimmerman with 2 kid gloves instead of 1?

The accelerated Mark Prior career path. Still cant believe I saw these 2 trades go down in 2 leagues:



Hanley Ramirez for Strasburg

Miguel Cabrera for Strasburg



Hype machine chews up and spits out the suckers

i cant believe they actually brought him back from his first dl stint. what on earth was there to gain? ill tell you.. nothing. absolutely nothing. he had already thrown a ton of innings both in the majors and minors. he had already proven that not only can he handle the majors but he could dominate them. and they decide to bring back the Franchise for August and September on a horrible horrible team?



thats why they are the Nats. It was foolish. Right now they should shut down zimmerman too. again.. whats the point? rest his arm. if this strasburg injury is serious you are going to need him next year, if its not then you have pretty filthy 1-2 punch for years to come.

The reason they brought Strasburg back is the same reason they will bring Zimmerman back this season.



They'd like to have more than the players' wives in the stands.

you cant seriously be saying that people are lining up to see jordan zimmerman and the nationals. he wasnt that dominant last year. i cant fathom he created that much buzz in a city that seems to ignore baseball. we'll have to agree to disagree there.



yeah strasburg drew people in, but he had already had his effect. yeah sure you were going to get 10 more sellouts or so, if he pitched at home, for the rest of the season, but i still say its shortsighted considering the state of the organization. i dont believe that the difference in them being able to sign adam dunn or not is dependent on 5 home strasburg starts.

However, I'm sure that the Nationals were selling the Strasburg/Zimmerman combination as the future of the organization and the second coming of Koufax/Drysdale or Seaver/Koosman or Gooden/Darling (yes, I'm a Mets fan ).

I mentioned this to a scout I know at the ballpark today.He responded.It is easy to say sit him.When the money will not come out of your pocket.Those sellouts are money the nationals had in the bank.

Hmm...

Don't be surprised if Strasburg's back again this year.



The Nationals still haven't ruled that out and are saying he had a similar issue occur in college and didn't even leave the game.

[/QUOTE]Remember we are talking about caution.He COULD get hurt.But,if you sit him you HAVE lost that revenue.If the say 10 mill came out of your pocket would you be so quick to sit him.I am just saying the scout had a point.My knee jerk reaction was sit him.But,if you are the one that will lose the money it is not such an easy choice.

[/QUOTE]Actually, the choice is a no-brainer for me. The risk of losing close to $100,000,000 a year for the next 10-12 years, not to mention playoff revenue (I know, I know) and the ancillary benefit of more attendance in general on days he does not pitch far trumps 10 MIL.

But why would you shut down Zimmermann? Part of the rehab process is pitching. He'll be limited to roughly 5 innings per start. He'll get maybe 5-6 starts from here on out. It's a confidence builder getting back out there, plus he needs more innings to both prepare for next year and not see too much of an innings jump next year.



Pitching Zimmermann this year is preparing him for next year.

Strasburg was in trouble the minute Bob Costas annointed him as the next Walter Johnson.Nice work Mr.Costas.

Pitching Zimmermann this year is preparing him for next year. dont disagree on the needing to pitch thing, but he has been in the show. he knows he can do it. the question is do you need to add the extra pressure of going up and playing for a crappy team? or is it better to let him linger and get pissed about it. maybe motivate him the post season to show the organization? at the end of the day this argument could go in any direction.



regardless, i shall be rooting for the nats in the coming years. big ryan zimmerman fan.

The Nats put him on the DL after he wasn't able to loosen up in the pen. I can't see how he's not shut down for the season at this point. His innings limit wasn't far away.



These pitchers today are made of sawdust it seems. We applaud guys who can make it to 200 innings these days. It's hard to find the bulldogs anymore... the guys who can throw 120 pitches and the guys that will allow them to throw 120 pitches.



Of course money is the root of most day-to-day decisions these days.

Ha! yup.. sure was worth it to bring him back and have him pitch for a horrific team that had no chance for the playoffs. its easy to be a monday morning QB today... but it was STUPID.

What a damn shame. Hope he can recover and be a force again. Not a Nats fan but don't want to see this guy become Mark Prior before he even becomes Mark Prior.
