Tuesday Night Chat
Hey everyone. I'm sorry I wasn't in the office today. Something unexpected came up, but I'll be back tomorrow and I'll be hanging around online for a few hours tonight so if we have some folks looking to chat tonight I'll be here and Greg can go home and spend some time with his family. I'm a single guy so I'll hang out with you guys for awhile and be part of this great NFBC family.
If you'll have me, of course.

hi tom. not sure if you heard...
Jason Bay has a bone bruise in his left wrist. He'll miss at least a week but should be ready for Opening Day.

hmmm....what do you think this does to the Reds PT situation? will freel get over 400AB?
Edwin Encarnacion's impressive start to spring training could force the Reds to use him in the major leagues sooner than planned.

The one thing about the Reds is they tend to have a lot of injuries every year, so that usually clears up whatever lineup issues they have to deal with. As far as Freel, everything I'm hearing so far indicates they plan on playing him quite a bit so I think he's still looking real good -- especially as a cheap option for SBs given how he'll likely lead off in the games he starts.

Freel might not be doing much running this season:
Feb. 16, 2005 - 2:33 pm et
Ryan Freel isn't yet 100 percent following October knee surgery, though he's optimistic he'll be ready for the start of the season.

Ryan Freel went 1-for-3 with a double as the Reds' third baseman tonight.
Freel hit leadoff, with D'Angelo Jimenez sliding down to the second spot. It's the same arrangement the team will use in Freel's starts during the regular season.

Plenty of time still until the start of the year. And it's a long season.

tom,
if you were competing in the NFBC, when do you think you'd start getting butterflies in your belly?
A) about a week before the draft
B) a day before the draft
C) an hour before the draft
D) when you walk into the draft room
E) when you walk into the draft room and everyone seems more prepared than you
F) don't get butterflies

No need for me to get butterflies if I'm well-prepared.

Besides, if I was drafting in Vegas I think it's physically impossible to get butterflies due to all of the pumped-in oxygen you're breathing in the casinos.

Tom, Greg said something about 27 players for the Las Vegas Auction for the reason behind not forming the leagues today. The Roll call shows only 26 signed up. Any insite into what happened?

We're working on that and will have it resolved tomorrow morning. We'll hopefully get some of the leagues finalized and announced tomorrow.

Greg will be leaving for Vegas next Tuesday morning. I'll be joining the gang out there Tuesday night. I believe Rocky will be flying to NY on Thursday and I'll be arriving in Chicago on Friday.

Where do you get that info from? I'm in the DC area and everything I hear is that it will be neutral. What i erad on the net indicates a fairly neutral site with possible slight leanings to pitchers. It may have been a hitter's park back in the Stone Ages but today's parks are so much more hitter friendly that RFK could actually favor pitchers. The dimensions are planned to be the same as in 1960. This is more accurate. It was a pitchers' park that was almost neutral back in the day. By just sitting there and getting older as other parks were built, it has become one of the better pitchers' parks. Though, more recent data isn't going to hurt.

If (God forbid), the event doesn't fill by the 13th, when and who will draw the leagues and draft slots?
Is Greg's daughter accompanying him to Vegas??
Will a Vegas showgirl be employed for an evening? - to draw names of course

It will be filled and we'll have all of the leagues announced no later than next Monday.

I don't believe so. I think Greg's flying solo.
