Since I don't typically watch games, I try and check the box scores a couple times a night before going to bed. Lately, I don't feel like checking them much because my pitchers seem to be getting shelled left and right. Even Halladay has been a huge letdown this past month.
Well, I got excited that I had a SP going tonight at home. Wells just smoked the giants yesterday. enter Ryan Dempster. I just checked the box score and couldn't believe the line...
1.2 innings
9 hits and walks
9 EARNED RUNS!?!?!?
excitement quickly changed to frustration. these types of nuclear destructions have been happening more frequently for me. Gio Gonzo just had one recently too. Cueto a couple days ago. Couple that with the Moyer pushed marlins to red sox nuclear destruction start due to the rain, and i really hate baseball sometimes.
thankfully the season is almost over.

Just play the weak RP only strategy and you don't have to worry about nights like this.

thankfully the season is almost over. uh, might wanna go back & check Halladay's #'s Mark. He's got 4 wins in last 4 starts, 23 K's...I'll grant the WHIP & ERA are not up to his standards, but all in all, most fantasy owners would love those results this time of yr.
As far as hating baseball, in my opinion football is far worse. There is nothing like seeing one of your players score a pivotal TD, only to get taken away by the refs.
At least a HR is a HR (well unless it's foul

), but you get what I mean. Even the announcers have to mention "no flags" when describing a long kick-off return for a TD. (for example).
That Calvin Johnson play - despicable, makes me wanna be like you & not watch the games

ya, whip and era have been what really stood out to me. i heard halladay say he was running out of steam lately. probably won't pitch next week either. i don't think i'll be buying him next year. can't wait to see how many innings are added to his arm after the playoffs are over.
as for football, i hate that f'n game. did 7 draft master formats this year. had matt stafford on 6 of them. had kolb on 3 of them. disgusting. i already told my usual football talk group that i have no interest in talking football this year. oh, and i own calvin johnson on my big money teams, so i felt the pain there too. football bites, done talking about it this year. might be done playing it. maybe i'll look to see if the casino by my house has a football slot machine. almost requires the same skill level.
thanks for letting me rant about football too

Hey Mark, great season Bud.
As far as the Dempster start goes, you have to look at the positives of the 1.2 inning/9 run line.

it is what it is. life goes on whether it's a 1.2inning 9 ER line or a 9inning 1ER line. makes my job tougher when it's the first one, but hey, this would be boring if it was easy!

halladay 241 innings so far. has at least one more regular season start and potentially another 30-40 innings in playoffs. could get to 290 innings!?!?
anyone know what happened to halladay the year after he threw 266 innings for the Jays?

Ryan used to break 300 innings regularly. He was effective for a few years I think. Every pitcher's different.

Glenn and strasburg couldn't even make it to 70 big league innings.

Dempster's career 4.34 ERA may go up a tick.
Sorry about the game. Feeling Gio, Garza, and Ubaldo right now myself, wish I played RPs instead for ERA and WHIP uptick.

Gekko, Halladay has thrown a ton of innings but his # of pitches is relatively good, I don't have all of the numbers, but I remember hearing about it. He is the most efficient pitcher in baseball in terms of # of pitches thrown per batter. So I woudln't let the innings total scare you off for next year. I might even take him # 1 overall in Doughboys' early draft. (Assuming I set my KDS to 1)

I don't have the numbers but I've owned him the last 2 years and I know that his innings pitched are high because he's so efficient with his pitches. I know that last year a couple of his complete games were accomplished with less than 100 pitches.
Toxic, I'm in the doughy early draft too. It should be a lot of fun... good luck to you.

Like tonight with Halladay; 8IP so far with 87 pitches. Probably hasn't even broken a sweat yet.
