50 ROUNDS

Before the Fanball Draft Room is revved up and ready to go to begin Slo-Drafts, a rule change may be in order.

45 round draft championship slo-drafts, in most cases, become wars of attrition. Players with no stats at some positions almost become the norm at the end of the season.

50 Round drafts would not entirely solve the problem, but it would serve to give each team a better chance at not picking up zeroes at the end of the year.

The only drawback would be extending the draft a few more days to pick the extra 75 players.

Before the slo-draft season begins and the chase for the first overall prize starts, let's decide whether our drafts should be 45 or 50 rounds. Avoiding zeroes because of bad luck with injury, to me, offsets the drawback of a few more days of drafting.

What are your thoughts?

The problem I see that may occur is that if Fanball does not have a deep, DEEP player pool to draw from, rds 45-50 will hit serious placeholder speed bumps. The earlier drafts especially were littered with placeholders and once they ran out, real players as placeholders. Looking at the draft board becomes fruitless and if an email(stating placeholder intentions) isn't timely then it becomes a cluster8888 fast.

THAT was for 45rds. Add 75 more players...

It's a worthy discussion among NFBC players. From a technical standpoint I'm sure we can add 5 more rounds and if more Placeholders are needed we can do that. I have to believe a lot of those additional 75 players are in the deep minors, but I might be wrong. Either way, it can be done technically.

You guys know this area better than me. I'm sure I can't name 750 different players, but God Bless all of you who can!! :D Have the discussion and let me know before the first week of November. ;)

THAT was for 45rds. Add 75 more players... In these early drafts there will DEFINITELY be a lot of Placeholders. All of these Player IDs come from STATS and prospects get new player IDs as they are added to the 40-man rosters. Many of the players drafted in the late rounds of these drafts are at Double-A or lower and don't have Player IDs in our/STATS' system right away. We get those added during the off-season as you guys know well through the years.

So this will definitely be the case if we go 50 rounds.

I can argue both ways on this issue. The slow draft format is my favorite I have come across so far and going from 45 players to 50 will help a bit with injuries / depth etc... that plaque players during the season. It helps or hurts everybody the same, so I am kinda indifferent on it, as long as its universal.

If you want to continue to have slow drafs in January, I think you really need 50 rounds. It is very hard to figure out who is going to have regulars bats during the season plus there are so many pitching injuries.

Here's what you are looking for with a 45 round draft:

C: 3

1B: 2

2B: 2

3B: 2

SS: 2

MI: 2

Co: 2

OF: 8

DH: 2

You have 25 hitters which allows you 20 pitchers.

I think you really need more pitchers just based on injuries. I'd like to have 22. It would give me 15 starters(a couple would be in the minors to start the year). Saves are a tough cover in you have injuries and even harder to predict in early slow drafts. You could draft a 7 man bullpen.

A couple more bench spots would allow to get a 4th catcher and maybe not get penalized by taking a couple of batters in the minors.

I bet some teams drafted in January have 6-10 players on the DL before the season starts plus a couple in the minors. If you are drafting a DC on March 31st, I think 45 rounds is fine.

yes, 50 rounds is more reasonable. I did 9 slow drafts last year and come the end of the season, it was tough to not take zeros at certain positions.

We need 50 rounds. I had 3 slow drafts this year and all of them went weeks with dead spots. Increase to 50

After thinking about it, if I had a vote I would vote to stay with 45 rounds. This just makes each pick that more important.

I am completely down with the move from 45 to 50 rounds. It makes too much sense not to make the switch...

50 Rounds it is... LOL. Like I said, I can go either way. The $1000 Slow Draft will rock either way!

By the way, great poem.

In my $325 Slow Draft last year the last players I really ever used out of my 45 player draft were Michael Stanton ROUND 36 and Yorvit Torrealba ROUND 38. I got a lot of use from the players I drafted in rounds 24 - 38, minus a few, but very little at all from rounds 39 - 45.

Is there any update on when the draft championships leagues will start on fanball? I am ready to get started.

I had the foresight to draft four catchers in my 45 rounder last year, but at one point three of them were on the DL together. I had other guys that never spent one day on my active roster, even though they accumulated several hundred MLB AB's. The point is whether it's 45 or 50 rounds, at some point you'll get screwed one way or another.

That said, I love the draft process so an extra five rounds means five more times to have fun and possibly grab that one surprise guy who could make a real difference.

Our goal is to have the Slow Draft software done in early November and that remains on target. I know everyone is anxious to start drafting, but we all want this software perfected with some nice recommendations from those who have done a lot of Slow Drafts and we're working on those enhancements right now. If we can nail this, I think we can have the best Slow Draft software out there and the technology to really grow this area of the market, leading to the Slow Draft National Championship.

But we have a lot of things to get done along with this, so just hang in there. It's still only Oct. 21. ;)

[/QUOTE]Greg, seriously, having nothing better to do and not being the least bit busy this time of the year ;) ...could you at least get off your ass and get this by yesterday especially since it's for Doughboy? :D Oh, and as far as my winnings are concerned, I would like to donate them in advance to the fund to help with the construction of Jupinka's monument that he hopes will soon be erected in his honor at a Hooters location TBD in NJ
