Thoughts On 2011 World Series

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:34 am

Okay, you have to believe that the folks at FOX aren't happy to have the Rangers and Giants in the World Series. TV ratings and even ad revenue likely would be higher with a 7-game series for the Yankees and Phillies, right? But that isn't happening. Still, this is a good matchup.

As a fan, are you more excited to see two franchises that haven't won a World Series title in the last half century in the final series? Does anything about this Series excite you? Will it be memorable or forgettable?

I'm interested in the die-hard baseball fans' opinion on this one. Are you ready to watch every pitch or snooze through this matchup? And why?

SInce Cablevision and Fox apparently cant get together, those of us in NY area with Cablevision will likely not get to watch the series.

Lee vs Lincecum is a must-watch game 1 for me. But, games 2-4 I'll probably check on the score around 5th-6th inning, and if it's close, then watch till the end.

It's pretty hard for me to get excited about watching the Giants bat, but still it is the World Series and so I'll be watching some.

Excited about Lee vs. Lincecum and the way the two teams have been built, mostly the right way! Lots of guys from their farm systems and a few pieces from the free agent pile to finish them off!

Watching guys like Josh Hamilton win is also good for the baseball soul in all of us!

Actually, there aren't many guys from either squad that were drafted/signed and developed by either squad. I think Texas starts one true home grown player and the Giants only start 1 as well.

That said, should be a good series and Lee vs Tim in game 1 is a pretty damn nice way to start it off.

for those who hate those bad hitting giants- that 1963 yankee team must have been tough to stomach. lost 4-0 and scored a total of 3 runs with a total of 22 hits. heck- cody ross and juan uribe could out hit that whole team.

I think it is a good matchup. If you like baseball there are two very good pitching staffs, some interesting hitting matchups. Benji Molina is looking at a WS share irreespective of who wins...I wonder which team's win garners him a bigger paycheck? Also does anyone know the odds? Would seem like they would favor Texas, with the bigger sticks but SF has homefield adv.

NorCalAtlFan - You are right, there are very few players that were actually brought up from birth from each franchise, but I think you get my point. The teams aren't built with $200 Million mega payrolls and even include young players that aren't even arbitration-eligible yet (Andrus, Feliz, Sandoval, Hunter,Bumgardner,Posey) and of course story book players like NLCS MVP Cody Ross!

No doubt. It is a bit refreshing to see two teams that weren't odds on favorites reach the series.

I think I'll have to go with Will Clark's old team in this one.

I don't watch the playoffs/world series so it doesn't matter to me who is playing.

i'll watch all of it. i love the WS. Lee vs Lincecum will be great, but so won't Cain vs Wilson (if they matchup).

Doughy, if Texas wins, this will give Benjie a ring. i know Javier (StL) and think Jose (NYY) already have theirs. is this a first for 3 brothers?

Matty and Felipe were in the '62 Series, but that was before Jesus, and they ended up losing when McCovey's line drive was caught.

Clete and Ken Boyer were my personal favorite brothers, both, integral parts of their teams on World Series winners. I know they had a brother, Cloyd, but don't remember him lasting long enough to get a ring.

To answer your question, I can't think of three brothers who have World Series rings.

I doubt the Drews (JD, Stephen, Tim, and Nancy) will do it.

Should be a great matchup tonight, but I'll take Cliff Lee and the Rangers in Game 1.

Prediction: Rangers in 6. Anyone else want to chime in? ;)

can't help but like the Rangers in the series, but it ABSOLUTELY would not surprise me if guys like renteria, uribe, huff, and burrell supply enough offense to carry the Giants to the promised land. Cliff Lee can't pitch EVERY game...

i'm picking G-Men in 7.
