Diamond, Ultimate, and Super Leagues - Payout % and Tiering

Post by Glenneration X » Mon Dec 27, 2010 3:00 am

It's getting to that time of the year where I'm going to be making my final decisions on what leagues & drafts I'll be entering for the 2011 season.

One option I'll be considering is whether to join a Super this year or if I'll be upgrading to an Ultimate.

Last year no Ultimate Draft filled. Part of the reason is obvious, the introduction of the inaugural Diamond League, where some of the annual Ultimate League drafters strayed off. However several Super Leagues filled, I believe more than in any other year the NFBC offered it.

I believe a major reason is that there is no difference in the payout percentage offered between the Ultimate and the Super. This was discussed in length between Greg & KJ Duke last year in the following thread:

KJ's argument was that the payout percentage should be increased for the Ultimate to create payout tiers between the Diamond, Ultimate, & Super in lieu to the currently equal payout percentage offerings between the Ultimate & Super, certainly a valid argument.

Tiering & upgraded payout percentages were provided for the NFFC premium leagues as followed:

-Diamond - 95.8%

-Ultimate - 92.5%

-Super - 90%

Though the NFBBC didn't offer Diamond or Ultimate leagues for its basketball product, its Super League had a payout percentage as follows:

-Super - 90%

Currently, the payout percentage for the NFBC Diamond, Ultimate & Super remain as follows, the same as last year:

-Diamond - 93.5%

-Ultimate - 86.7%

-Super - 86.7%

I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy for the payout percentages between the three sports. I'll assume part of it is because the Hoops Super didn't involve a live draft and in football the competition from other contests is pretty intense. Also if check payments were required for these offerings in the other sports that could partially explain it.

However considering all of the above, I believe the NFBC should at minimum look to increase the payout percentage for the Ultimate to 90% as suggested last year. As discussed at the time, this could be easily accomplished by making payment for the NFBC Ultimate similar to the required payment for the premium leagues in the other sports & the NFBC Diamond, check only. The difference in payout percentage would then be made up for in the saved credit card fees.

Just a suggestion Greg, I'd hate to see a 2nd season without an Ultimate Draft. I believe if you make this draft check only & increase the payouts, it'll fill easily.

Diamond, Ultimate, and Super Leagues - Payout % and Tiering

Just curious, but what is the payout percentage on the Main Event? $21,000 is collected per league and $9,800 is paid out in league awards. How much goes to the overall awards?

Nice post. I'm also wondering why the NFBC and NFFC can't both follow the same payout %.

The Super and Ultimate look very appealing at the 90% level.

Greg - any chance of matching the NFFC?

Diamond, Ultimate, and Super Leagues - Payout % and Tiering

Simple solution. Offer a $200 cash discount for the Ultimate league and that puts the payout right at a fair 90% for cash customers.

Fanball wins, cash customers win and credit card customers don't get locked out. The only loser in this deal would be MC and Visa.

I agree that we do need to separate the Ultimate from the Super if we hope to expand that format. Let me run this through the proper channels and get back to everyone. I wasn't avoiding this idea, I'm just knee deep in NFFC prizes and playoffs now.
