I'm bored, so I'll ramble....
Who's professional career started first- Yogi Bear or Yogi Berra?
The smartass answer would be to say that Yogi Bear never had a professional career, he was a cartoon...
The real answer would be that Berra started playing with the Yankees in '46.
Bear began his career at JellyStone in '48
Now, what came first Baby Ruth or Babe Ruth?
It's a little bit of a trick question...
Baby Ruth's bars were originally called Kandy Kake and started selling in 1900, well before Ruth burst onto the scene.
After Ruth became the first man to hit 20, 30, 40, and 50 home runs in 1920 and a National Treasure, well, coincidentally, the next year, Kandy Kake became Baby Ruth.
Executives from the company claimed the name was for Prsident Grover Cleveland's daughter.
However Cleveland's term ended some 30 years earlier and Baby Ruth had died 17 years previous!
They also concocted a story about Baby Ruth being the name of a daughter of a former executive.
In reality, it is safe to say that the candy company did well with the name of a candy bar without paying fees or royalties.
After Ruth's 'called shot' at Wrigley Field vs. the Cubs in the World Series, a huge billboard of a Baby Ruth bar was placed within vision of where that ball landed. It stood for 40 years.
The Reggie Bar came out during the 70's. Prior to being signed by the Yankees, Jackson exclaimed that, "If I played in New York, they'd have to name a candy bar after me!"
The candy manufacturer, believe it or not was the same company that made the Baby Ruth bar, the Curtiss Company. They made a favorite of mine as well, the ButterFinger. And no, it was not named for Billy Buckner.
The Reggie bar wrapper screamed REGGIE! with a picture of him hitting a ball.
Oh Henry! bars came well before Hank Aaron. They started around the same time that the Baby Ruth bar was renamed. In reality, both candy bars taste swell, but unfortuantely, they both look like dog poop.
Baby Ruth, however indirectly, and the Reggie Bar, are the only two candy bars named (or re-named) after baseball players on a national scale,at least, known to me.
Here is my favorite piece of trivia relating to the two bars. When Babe Ruth ended his career, he was the all time leader in striking out. Since then, 94 players have passed his mark.
At the top, is strikeout king, Reggie Jackson.

Good thing MLB didn't sue the Baby Ruth company back then- then purchase it and close it down.
