Have You Ever Seen a Worse Pitching Staff?

Post by Bluecat » Thu Mar 03, 2011 3:19 am

From my $125 draft last night, I missed out on the top flight guys and decided to go with better closers and continue offense. Not something I really planned to do, but once the guys I wanted were taken, I liked the offensive guys better. Oh well, I guess I'll need to be vigilant on the wire and try to manage this staff to a decent finish.

Rd14: Shields

Rd17: Cueto

Y Yeah, you may be right. I don't know though, as bad as they look, I actually don't project to be that bad except for ERA. Offensively I should be near the top in all 5 categories and saves should be good, so if I can just find a way to play matchups with the starters and maybe grab a surprise starter or 2 with FAAB, it could be doable.

Todd - I've seen a lot worse that that staff. To be honest I like a lot of the names you've got. The good news with your two closers is you will have the FAAB dollars to dedicate to searching for SP's every week and that will be a plus as the season progresses. They will also help mitigate some of the ratio downside of missing out on the Top SP's. This staff should have no problem racking up K's. Harang and Slowey both make nice back of the rotation risk/reward plays. Now the question is - how's the offense??

Good Luck this year!

Was in that draft with you last night, and it certainly went off the course in a few directions last night... I blame it on taking almost 4 hours 45 minutes to complete.

I'm glad you asked, Ryan. Well, I took on some risk with my middle infielders, but I also tried to take a couple backups if and when the injuries come. Here is the whole group:

C: Torrealba, Hundley

1b: Konerko

3b: M Young

CI: C Pena

2b: Kinsler

SS: Tulowitzki

MI: Furcal

OF: Choo, Ethier, Abreu, Fowler, Ibanez

UT: Casilla

Bench: Kouzmanoff, Schumaker, Brantley, Hafner

My biggest post draft regret was taking Konerko with my 4-13 pick instead of Greinke. I thought I was low on power so I took Konerko and then Greinke was gone before my 5-3 pick. In hindsight, that was just a stupid move. From there, it seemed like I just missed on all the pitchers I had pegged. If the infield stays healthy,I should be in good shape, or at least I hope.

Good Luck this year!

If you hadn't snagged Konerko where you did, I was taking him:

C: Mauer, Salty

1B: Derek Lee

3b: Beltre

CI: Jose Lopez

2B: Brignac

SS: Hanley

MI: Alcides

OF: McCutchen, Stanton, Adam Jones, Raburn, Snider

U: Headley

P: Hanson, Cain, Brett Anderson, Hellickson, Minor, Anibal, Jurrjens , Andrew Bailey, Hanrahan

Bench Hitters: Moustakas, Podsednik, Trumbo

Bench Pitchers: Niese, Carrasco, Chris Young, LeBlanc

I am light a bit on HR , and a few steals I believe.

Todd: Nothing that can't be fixed, you put up one heck of a good fight in Ryan Careys Rookie Challenge last year. Best of luck.

I thought of this thread when I looked at the pitching staff of a guy (in my satellite last night) who didn't show up :( He (autopick) did not take a pitcher until the 12th rd, Ricky Nolasco. His only real closer is Storen.

R. Soriano

O. Dotel

T. Wood

C. Sale

D. Storen

J. Niese

C. Zambrano

S. Baker

R. Nolasco

J. Garland

this is what kind of staff coach autopick drafts for ya!
Always be closing.

At least you will have some saves....and you must have a great offense.
