Stephen Jupinka and Shawn Childs To Be Inducted Into NFBC Hall of Fame
I'm proud to announce tonight that the inaugural class of the NFBC Hall of Fame will include two top players from the first seven years of our contest: Stephen Jupinka and Shawn Childs. I know that both players feel awkward being honored from a group of such talented fantasy players, but I really believe that these two owners have earned the right to be celebrated for their accomplishments during the first seven seasons.
Steve and Shawn will be honored in Las Vegas before the Main Event at the Bellagio on Saturday, March 26th. We will also honor them on the web site with a special Hall of Fame area, with their photos, list of accomplishments and earnings. They have set the bar for excellence in the NFBC and the good news is that you know these guys won't quit trying to win multiple contests each year. Both are in more than a handful of NFBC contests this year and will be striving to win every one that they are in again.
Steve and Shawn are the only competitors to win four NFBC league titles since 2004 and Steve won the $100,000 grand prize last year. Shawn has four Top 5 overall finishes, but you know he won't be satisfied until he wins the overall title. He's back in Las Vegas with us again to try and do just that.
Let's toast these two great players and know that while we're celebrating their accomplishments they are preparing day and night for the upcoming season. CONGRATS STEVE AND SHAWN!!
And congrats to the six other finalists for the NFBC Hall of Fame. Tom and I could have easily honored each and every one of you, but the bar has been set very high by these two players and hopefully some of you will earn the right to join them in the NFBC Hall of Fame next year. We'd like nothing better than to add to this list each and every year, but only if there are worthy additions.
Thanks all and good luck in 2011. We have a lot to celebrate this season, that's for sure.

STEPHEN JUPINKA
NFBC FACTS
Entered: 33 leagues since 2004
Won: 14 league titles (42.4%)
2nd: 3 times (51.5% in Top 2)
3rd: 4 (63.6% in money)
4th: 4
5th: 3
6th: 1
7th: 1 (30 of 33 times he's in top half)
Other finishes: 9, 13, 14
Main Events: 8
1st: 4 (NFBC record)
2nd: 1
3rd: 1 (cashed 75%)
4th: 1
5th: 1
In the overall standings, he is our Lifetime Standings leader, having placed 10th, 18th, 35th, 54th, 2nd, 33rd, 1st and 94th.
My records might be off slightly, but Steve has spent approximately $46,000 in NFBC entry fees and has won just over $170,000.
Steve has also won money in just about every different format. He has won:
Main Events
$500 Satellite Leagues (4)
$325 Slow Drafts (3)
12-team Online Championships (1)
Invitationals (KJ Duke)
He finished second in the debut NFBC Auction Championship.
His Achilles heel might be the Ultimate League! [Big Grin] He has competed in four Ultimate Leagues and finished 3rd, 5th, 13th and 14th. Don't ask me why, but that's been his lone failure.
Interestingly, it's fun to see how few leagues we actually offered our top players before the past few years. Here's Steve's resume in the NFBC:
2004: 1st Main Event, 1st $500 Mid-Season
2005: 1st Main Event
2006: 2nd Main Event, 3rd Ultimate, 5th $500 Sat
2007: 5th Main Event, 1st $500, 7th $500, 3rd Ultimate, 5th Ultimate Auction

2009: 3rd Main Event, 1st $325 Slow, 4th $500 DC, 1st KJ Duke, 9th $1,000 Sat, 1st Online Championship, 13th Ultimate, 1st $250
2010: 1st Main Event, 3rd Super, 4th Main Event, 2nd Auction, 6th Live Double Play, 1st $325 Slow, 1st $325 Slow, 4th $325 Slow, 2nd $125 Sat, 4th $125 Sat.

Great decision Greg!
Not only have they been the two most successful players, they've done as much as anyone to represent the NFBC and high stakes players with both sportsmanship and talent, just what a HOF player should be.
Congrats Steve & Shawn.

Congrats Steve and Shawn. You two deserve it and will serve as great ambassadors for our game. Greg, excellent decision; set the bar enormously high - what a Hall of Fame should be.

If the inaugural HOF class is limited to two, then Steve and Shawn are the obvious choices. Ask anyone with any history here who the best players in our game are and these gentlemen are always in the conversation. Two great players who are great guys as well who always represent this contest with class. Congratulations Steve. Congratulations Shawn. A well-deserved honor.
Any of the other nominees would have been worthy choices as well and their time will come. Don't worry guys, you're in. It's just a matter of when. Remember, even Dimaggio had to wait a few years.
Congrats again to Steve and Shawn and all the others nominated.

You head what will one day be a longer list of class competitors who kick my can year in and year out!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
