Laptops, Internet and Cell Phones

Post by viper » Thu Feb 26, 2004 5:38 pm

I recall reading that laptops are allowed but electrical outlets may not exist so that batteries and extra batteries are recommended. I don't recall if cell phones are allowed or if they will work in the draft room.

What is the true scoop on these things?

Forgot about internet access but think I heard it will not exist. Could that be confirmed?

I'm sure Greg will clarify - but picture yourself in a large hotel conference room. If you are lucky enough to be near an outlet and you can plug in without tripping people? Hey, lucky for you - but I wouldn't plan on it. Internet connection? I'd think zero chance that you'll be sitting next to a connection or a phone jack, let alone a high speed access port. I'm sure cellphones are allowed, but no way anyone can tell you if your cellphone will work ;)

Good luck - plan on technology failing and your paper and pencil carrying you... and be pleasantly surprised if that's not true!

Laptops, Internet and Cell Phones

Laptops are definitely allowed, but you'll have to bring good batteries for them. It would be virtually impossible to have power strips and extension cords for every single person who needs it, so you're on your own when it comes to supplying power there. But I'm certain several people will bring laptops. Cell phones are also permitted at the draft, but we ask you to be courteous about using them and not interrupt the entire draft with constant interruptions. As for the reception at the Rio for cells, I think everyone will tell you they are hit-and-miss in any of the casinos, but you should have some luck there.

Sorry, but there will be no Internet connection. The costs for that at any convention center are outrageous and we don't even order it for our bigger shows or Trade Conferences. Good luck.

I would be in NYC and not the Rio but suspect that cell phone reception would be the same. Looks like my team will enter this weekend if a few final details can be worked out.

We look forward to having you officially in the NFBC and joining us in New York. Lots of interest in New York right now as people can drive into the city for the draft and still get back home at little cost. I have to believe your cell phone will work just fine at the Javits Center. Give me a call at 715-445-4612, ext. 284 if you have any other concerns or questions.
