I love doing auctions (5-6 hours of strategy bliss), so I am very curious to see how other players constructed their teams and what prices they paid.
John Pausma and I teamed up as usual in the Chicago Auction. I like auctions more than he does, so he let me do the bidding. Having a partner, however, is invaluable in an auction because of the information and strategies ideas going about 1000 miles an hour.

Our plan going in was to spend $200 on offense and $60 on pitching because we believed SP's were plentiful this year and knew we could get several SP for about $6-8 total at the end. We have never had such a drastic split, but having doing 4 auctions already this year, we knew prices and what would likely be available.
We started with Pedroia, then A. Gonzalez, Reyes, and Braun. We went into the auction intending to buy Hanley for up to $45, but Jose Reyes was going for several $ cheaper than in the other auctions I did, so I bought him. I thought $35 for Adrian Gonzalez was way too cheap, so I bought him early. AG wasn't in the plan at all, but underpriced studs = buying opportunities.
I had 2 players which were my "must-haves" (to a certain extent at least) - Stanton and Gio Gonzalez. We rostered Stanton for $21. Headhunters knew I have a mancrush on Gio, so he put up Gio early in the second round of bidding. In the 4 auctions I did previously, Gio went for $9-$11. When bidding got to $12 I bailed out, because with $60 dedicated to pitching I couldn't get stupid with Gio (lots of other SP's) and I definitely did not want to give Mike the pleasure of seeing me overpay for Gio. Just know, my friend, paybacks are a biotch.

Our auction had a strange ebb and flow. A couple players went WAY over their normal price, Posey for $32 and $24 for Marmol. We gave the buyer for Marmol a round of applause after that bidding war. lol We could see prices in total were high for the first 50% of the auction, so we knew some huge bargains were coming. We got some in McGehee for $8 and C. Lewis for $8 . I also remember T. Hunter for $6, Pagan for $6, and Abreu for $8.
The strangest thing of all - a couple of outstanding fantasy players were sitting with alot of money left in the last 20% of the draft. At least 5 teams had $ left at the end of between $4 and $16. Some guys just didn't go that extra $1 or $2 early for players and got caught at the end.
Please post your teams when you have a chance. Thanks!
