Jim Bowden said that the Cubs lineup looks like a bunch of number six hitters with little thought as to building a lineup.
Nail on head!
In the early going, there is only one outfielder amongst the top 10 in Batting Average-
Carlos Quentin
Is Rafael Perez, this years Tyler Clippard?
He shares the Major League lead with two wins.
Carlos Silva's agent says multiple teams are interested in Silva.
Which is like me sending a love letter to Jennifer Aniston, her calling the police about a possible stalker, and then declaring to the press that Jenifer Aniston has an interest in me.
If Silva's ego had not gotten in the way, and accepted AAA, he'd be pitching next week.
Jose Reyes is different this year. The big smiles have faded. The practiced hand shakes are not as noticeable. I guess we can take this a few different ways....
He knows he won't be in New York all year...
He's maturing....
He's buckling down in a contract year....
....Maybe, it's all of the above.....
Folks like talking about the Red Sox not winning this year. They are still not the worst team in baseball.
Tampa is at the bottom of almost every hitting category, and still, has not even led a game this year.......
Minnesota Twins hitters are 0-18 batting in the first inning this year....
Nick Swisher's look of anguish as Nishioka was being helped off the field yestersay made me think of the old timers....
It is the way baseball has changed the most.
Players play today as one big brotherhood. Back then, it was team first, and to Hell with anybody that got in the way.
Nutshell- In 100 years baseball players have gone from the sharpening of spikes to genuine empathy.
I prefer the middle of both extremes....
Last, ok, alright, bear with me, this is a personal pet peeve of mine.
I get so irratated when an announcer says this... " So and So finishes the game JUST a triple short of the cycle!"
JUST? JUST?
That's like saying, "So and So is just a toupe from having a full head of hair!"
So...anyway...
Since 1961, there have been 142 players that have hit for the cycle. It averages out to a little less than three players a year during that time frame.
During the same time frame, 8,830 players have hit a single, double, and home run in a game. Including three this year already.
That averages out to about 177 times a year. Which, for all intents and purposes, makes it a daily occurance.
