The most entertaining thing I saw in baseball this past weekend was so simplistic, that only 'real' baseball fans would 'get it'.

Billy Butler attempting to steal a base vs. Victor Martinez.

When Butler took off from first base, I decided I wanted a snack. I made a grilled cheese sandwich and poured myself a glass of milk in the kitchen.

When I got back to my easy chair, Butler was still on his way to second base.

The look on Martinez face was classic.

This wasn't Pierre, Ellsbury, or Gardner....This was freakin' Billy Butler!

Martinez thought for a second of all the runners that he had thrown out. Unfortunately, it really did only take a second.

None, could have been slower than Billy Butler.

I finished up the business and 'lifestyles' section of the daily newspaper and polished off my grilled cheese sandwich.

Butler had stated the willingness to try and steal bases in spring training. His Manager buoyed by a successful steal attempt in Florida, predicted that Butler would get double digit steals.

I cleaned the garage, it was on the honey-doo list.

I settled back into the easy chair as Butler prepared for his slide. I remember a few times when Butler went into home plate on close plays standing up and was thinking how stealing a base was probably just a pain in the ass for him.

Martinez throw was heading true toward second base.

If throws were fireworks, most of Martinez would be duds, but this one would land right in front of second base, awaiting the sliding Butler.

Butler had his early answer.

If he can't steal vs. Martinez, who could he steal against?

Martinez gave himself a little fist pump and began re-thinking signing as a designated hitter.

In the meantime, far from human eyes, but with the same relevance, a turtle and a sloth are racing toward a waterhole.

And some animal, is watching in amusement, the same way I watched Butler and Martinez.
