With both Kershaw & Broxton on my Main Event squad, today's Dodgers-Braves contest was setting up perfectly for a double bonus win and save from the same ballgame. The Dodgers had taken a 2-1 lead into the top of the 9th, Kershaw pitching great for 8 innings. Bring in Broxton, close it out, my team moves up the standings.

But wait......

Kershaw starts the ninth, gets the first two batters out and is close to shutting the door on a complete game win. Alright, not as perfect as throwing a Broxton save into the mix, but still a win's a win.

But wait.......

Kershaw lets a runner get on base, then another, then another. Mattingly's got to bring in his closer now right? With Kershaw obviously tiring, having pitched 120 pitches already, and the game on the line, Mattingly's certain to call Broxton in. Even though there's no longer a cushion for Broxton to work with, the win & save possibility is once again viable.

But wait.......

Mattingly leaves Kershaw in the game. What? What happens? What else could happen? Another hit, Dodgers lead is history, Kershaw's win possibility is history, and.......

Now Mattingly brings Broxton into a NON-save situation. Sigh. Sometimes I really hate this game.

I feel your pain, Glenn. They are really letting Kershaw throw a TON of pitches lately. I pray it doesn't come back to haunt him as it would be a shame to see such an amazing talent side tracked by injury/surgery.

Tough calls for Mattingly. Kershaw got the first two guys out then Chipper singled. If you were going to take him out, that was the spot. But...once you let him pitch to Uggla, he pretty much has to stay in because Freeman (LH) was next and if you brought in Broxton to face Ross, the Braves would have PH Ross with McCann.

If I'm Mattingly, I'll take Kershaw v. Freeman and Ross over Broxton v. Freeman and McCann 100x out of 100.

Speaking of dopes, can Ned Yost get a clue and stop playing the waste of space that is Chris Getz? .242/.329/.290, which is only slightly worse than his career line of .253./318/.319. He sucks, OK? Sucks.

Aviles was supposed to be the leadoff hitter, had a bad week, gets benched and all of a sudden he sits 3x a week while Getz (who unquestionably sucks and does nothing to help your team win baseball games) gets 30 PA a week. Enough already.

How about the Atlanta manager pitching to Kemp with first base open in a tie game in the bottom of the 11th? Am I missing something here?

Watching the Dodgers/Astros game today and Mattingly is completely overmatched.

1-1 game, bottom 6th man on 2nd, 2 outs. Lilly's spot is up. Lilly has pitched pretty well and has thrown 75 pitches. The Dodgers bullpen is awful.

The right play is to let Lilly bat; you're odds of scoring there are low anyway, and Lilly would be good for at least 2 more innings.

Not only does he not let Lilly bat, he PHs with Either of all people, who - as should be obvious to anyone who has ever watched a baseball game - is promptly IBBed. Furcal quickly grounds out to end the inning.

So he pulled a SP after 75 pitches to get to his awful bullpen and in the process burned his best (only) weapon off the bench to get nothing. It's so dumb it's almost guaranteed to work out. Tony Gwynn or some other bum will hit a walk off HR.

Our ace in the hole ...

How do you lose a game 2-1 and never find time for an AB for your best player, Troy Tulowitzki?
