True story. Last yr I know a guy who spent the farm to pick up Wandy after his disgusted owner dropped him. Guy won his league thx to solid contribution from Wandy in 2nd half.
Point is, you don't drop a SP of Liriano's caliber in April
*Another true story (just remembered, but perfect for this subject) a few yrs ago you may recall CC Sabathia was horrible after 1st month of season. I could be wrong, but I believe his ERA was even higher than Liriano's was. In my 1 small league that allows trades, Sabathia's owner got rid of him for a song. CC ended up w/ 17 wins (11 for MIL after mid-season trade) 2.70 ERA 1.11 WHIP and 251 K's!

The worst part is that Liriano wasn't really any good last night. 6 BBs, 2 Ks. Barely half his pitches for Ks. It's not like he's "fixed"

This really wasn't a true no hitter since he did it against a lowly White Sox team who haven't done anything yet this year. I still think I made the right decision. They were about ready to send him down to the minors! We will see.

Francisco Liriano had ONE great half season 5 years ago and ONE good season last year. Right now he's looking a lot more like the 2009 version. CC is a poor example cause CC has/had a much better track record than Liriano's inconsistent success.
Where a player is drafted and what he did last year are completely irrelevent once the games start and a new season is underway.
Last night's no-hitter saw him throw only 11 first pitch strikes to the 30 batters he faced on a struggling White Sox team. He also allowed more fly balls than ground balls.
Would I personally drop him? It depends on what my team construction is and who I'd be replacing him with. You have to consider that if dropped, someone is going to bite and blow a large portion of their FAAB while taking on his miserable ratios. It's a potential win-win if you think he'll continue to struggle.
Sure, he could figure it out like Wandy, Latos, or Scherzer did last year. Or he could be Oliver Perez, Andrew Miller, Rich Hill, or Francisco Liriano circa 2009. As for unwritten NFBC rules, I doubt you'll hear much fuss if/when Liriano is dropped in future leagues. He hasn't showed anything thus far of being worth a 5th-6th round pick and the Twins have options to replace him. What have you seen thus far that makes you so bullish?

Seriously though, I agree w/ much of what you said, you make a decent argument to drop him I suppose. You're probably right that one should not compare Liriano to CC, but I think Oliver Perez is just as far off the mark.
