The manager is a disgrace, leaving the kid in there for this. Never saw anything like it. They were totally unprepared to handle this game when the starter couldnt last the 1st inning because of injury. Yost obviuosly had no backup plan. And to thank him for his beating, they sent him back to the minors. I'll give the kid credit, because so far his comments were all positive and he took responsibilty for the way he ptiched.

I don't think he is a disgrace at all.

Yost was already on his third pitcher early in a game he couldn't win. A time where he has to think what benefits the team as a whole, and not the feelings of a pitcher.

I was thinking that Mazzaro should have an added 'g' to his last name. Mazzagro. Spelled backwards, it would have described Cleveland hitters feelings about the stuff he was throwing last night.

Actually, this was his backup plan and on paper, was pretty clever.



Davies gets hurt so you put a reliever in, allowing Mazzaro some time to get loose. As a starter, Mazzaro needs extra time to warm up, unlike your normal relievers. Then Mazzaro takes you 5 or so innings, into the regular end-of -the-game bullpen.



Since Mazzaro was supposed to start the next day, you DL Davies and bring up a guy to start or demote a reliever.



So he had a backup plan for Davies which was actually pretty clever.



What he did not plan for was the shellacking. But what manager does? After his second inning of work, my guess is Yost asked the kid "can you give me one more, we need to save the bullpen" and he obviously wanted to redeem himself and went out there.



As an aside, I had Mazzaro active in a high stakes AL only league for his 2-starts. I saw the line and spend the next 30 minutes going to EVERY web site there was, hoping to find out it was a mistake.

And FWIW, I have Wakefield on the bench in this league, who now gets 2 starts so I can pretty much guarantee Wake will kick some ass this week - from my bench

I feel bad for the kid but his 34.67 razzball points moved me up two places in the standings. I am going to miss that second start.

Plus, if you're the manager of KC you're probably thinking whoever your next pitcher is is just as likely to cough up another run as Mazz is.
