On this day in 1961 the New York Yankees sluggers Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle had 20 and 18 home runs.
On this day 50 years later, Curtis Granderson has 20 home runs, Mark Teixeira, 19.
Jose Bautista has gone 13 games without a home run.
A year ago, who cared?
Now, what gives?
Name-wise, I like the Lincecum-Leake matchup today. The Minor-Dickey matchup next week is sweet too.
Robinson Cano has reached base in every day game this year.
Are you a guy that goes for a positional edge?
Too bad.
The top six rated players on the NFBC rater are all outfielders.
Here are some infielders taken with high picks that are not doing well on the rater...
1b-
Youkilis-14th
C Lee- 27th
Huff- 30th
Dunn- 32nd
D Lee- 34th
2b-
A Hill-19th
Roberts 24th
Beckham-25th
Uggla- 32nd
3B-
Longoria- 30th
McGeHee- 35th
ss-
Jeter- 15th
Uribe- 34th
Going into play today, Dan Uggla is hitting(?) .170
Last year, he hit .287 over the course of the season.
Here are players that miss 2010...
Uggla .170/.287
Hanley .210/.300
Rios .210/.284
Swisher .216/.288
Figgins .193/.259
Infante .259/.321
CarGo .268/.336
Choo .237/.300
Ichiro .252/.315
KJohnson .221/.284
The Braves are a long and storied franchise.
But, they have only won three World Series.
And, they have done it in three different cities.
Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.
Only the Mariners, Nats, Padres, Pirates, Rays, and Giants have less hits than the Yankees.
Going into play today, the Yankees had less singles than any team in baseball.
