Anibal Sanchez starts tonight.
It has been exactly two months since he won a game.
Jeff Karstens struck out his 76th batter today.
A career high.
Karstens is pitch to contact (ptc) pitcher on a staff of ptc pitchers.
Atlanta reliever, Craig Kimbrel has 89 strike outs.
Pittsburgh pitchers have less strike outs than any National League team.
Today, the Giants tied a record from 1914. They are on a streak of hitting solo home runs.
19 in a row.
The Philadelphia Phillies hit 19 solo home runs during the middle of the dead ball era.
The last time the Giants had a homer other than a solo home run was over a month ago on July 6.
They have the right pitcher throwing against them today to break the record.
Jeff Karstens has given up 20 homers.
18 solo homers.
Dan Uggla has a 30 game hitting streak now.
The last 11 players to have a 30 game streak are all National Leaguers.
The last American Leaguer to do it, was Baltimore outfielder, Eric Davis, a former National Leaguer.
Kyle Davies was released today by the Royals.
Davies leaves the organization with a 5.52 ERA. A 1.62 WHIP and a .288 baa.
He won 29 games over his five seasons with the Royals.
Jose Constanza has become a favorite in Atlanta already. He has EARNED more playing time than Jayson Heyward since his call up.
Teammates are calling him 'George' or 'Georgy' from Seinfeld episodes.
When asked if he knew who George Costanza was, he replied that in the minors, they would play the theme song to Seinfeld when he approached the plate, but that he didn't know of the character.
Chad Billingsley did not have a strike out today.
He has only had six during his last three starts.
The last time Billingsley did not register a strike out in a game was August 28, 2010.
It may be a sign of good things to come however.
After that start, Billingsley never had less than six strike outs for the rest of the season, including a 13 k performance.
A quality start is a stat made by, for, and for the express purpose of agents.
Who else can come up with a stat that rewards a 4.50 ERA?
That said, Jered Weaver has 24 starts this year. 22 have been quality starts.
The Colorado Rockies sent down Ian Stewart again.
Playing in one of the best hitters parks in baseball, Stewart hit zero home runs.
Jason Hammels even hit a homer this year.
And incredibly, Hammels .158 average is two points higher than Stewart's.

Interesting stat on the hit streaks. I was surprised by Davis and forgot his 1998 streak and checked on when it happen. Being an Indians fan I immediately remembered the magical 1997 season from Sandy Alomar when he had his own 30 game hit streak.
He was named MVP of the 1997 All-Star game. He batted .324 en route to leading the Indians to their third straight postseason. He hit two homers in the division series against the Yankees, including his famous shot off Mariano Rivera in the 8th inning of a pivotal Game 4 which tied the game the Indians would go on to win to set up Game 5. Mariano's only blown playoff save until 2001. He was a beast in the World Series, where the ultimately lost to the Florida Marlins, hitting .367 with 2 more HR's and 10 RBI's. Unfortunately for Indians fans the thing we remember most from Alomar in that series is him getting thrown out at home in the Top of the 9th with 1 out after a ground ball to SS.
1997 also was the year that Nomar Garciaparra set the rookie record with his own 30 game hit streak.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
