There's a pretty cool story to be told from this week's leaderboard. Richard Gordon has edged ahead of Lindy Hinkelman for the Auction Championship lead, which is pretty amazing when you consider how close Richard came to winning the overall title last year. Richard and his partner Charles Levitz are NFBC 7-Year Members who have always participated in the auction leagues together and last year they finished second overall while becoming the only auction participants to win two separate auction league titles. They lost the overall title to Jeff Dobies by a half a point in the overall standings, which as it turned out was really like one run or one extra hit for batting average. It was an amazing finish in that contest last year.
This year, Richard and Charles stuck to the auction leagues and didn't even enter any sepentine drafts. They competed in an NFBC Auction League the first weekend in Las Vegas and then were entered in two auction leagues the second weekend. Unfortunately, Richard had to attend a funeral in Florida that second weekend, leaving Charles at the auction table with someone else. They didn't want to leave their favorite format, but for the first time they weren't at the auction table together.
Well, long story short, one of those auction teams from that second weekend is in the hunt for the league and overall title and today it's positioned in first place. GREAT JOB guys and continued good luck. Don't look too closely in your rearview mirror because Lindy is right behind. There's a good story there, too, with Lindy trying to win TWO national titles this year to go with his 2009 NFBC overall title. If he keeps this up he might find himself in a special room with Childs & Jupinka!!

Wouldn't that be something to celebrate next year in Las Vegas?!!
Good luck all. The stretch run should be a BLAST.

This is so special! Getting my $%#@$^ handed to me by the leaders in BOTH the Auction and Main Events...gosh I am so lucky!
Congrats Richard and Lindy!
Greg, as an aside, I always wondered who/how many have participated in the Main Event without missing a year since 2004?

I don't think Lindy will be caught in the Main Event. His team is just too strong.

Greg, as an aside, I always wondered who/how many have participated in the Main Event without missing a year since 2004? I will try to look that up once we have our Archived Teams back on the site. That's a goal for both NFBC and NFFC this off-season. In 2008 when I bought those black NFBC Charter Member hats for our fifth anniversary we had like 110 of the original 195 still playing for a fifth straight season. I don't think we have that many anymore, but it's a good exercise for me to do in October or November when I get access to that 2004 list. I'd think we still have 70+ if not more.
What to do for NFBC X in 2013???? Personalized Coronas anyone?
