This was another Year of the Pitcher in the NFBC as overall offensive numbers were down compared to past seasons and pitching numbers were improved. In 2011, two teams set new pitching records for season totals, but no offensive records were set. In fact, most of the cumulative offensive numbers in the Main Event were among the worst in our eight seasons.



Congrats to J.T. Visco, who led his Scared Money Don’t Make Money team to a new NFBC Main Event WHIP record. That team finished with a cumulative WHIP Ratio of 1.140, to top the old record by 0.017. Also congrats to David Shovein, who led his Dynamic Inertia team to the new NFBC Main Event Strikeouts record. That team finished with 1,496 K's, topping the old cumulative record by 14.



Also congrats to Anthony Palavis, who led his team to the cumulative titles this year in Runs (1,147), HRs (328) and RBI (1,148).



Here's a look at the updated records in the NFBC Main Event, ranking all 10 categories in the order of the top finishers from each season. We do not have an updated Lifetime Standings yet, but I will update that once all of the archived data is back. I do know that Stephen Jupinka is the top ranked player from those owners who have played at least eight years, with an average placing of 39.4 for every Main Event league he has entered.

It's also interesting to note that the last 3 overall champions have drafted out of Las Vegas. Lindy Hinkelman has won twice from Las Vegas (2009 and 2011), while Stephen Jupinka won the overall from Las Vegas in 2010. We now have overall champions who drafted from Las Vegas four times, New York twice and Chicago twice. It's been a good distribution and as most owners will tell you, EVERY location is very difficult.

Two amazing things jump out at me.



One is Anthony Palavis' team with the 6th most winning HR record in 2011 with 328. And 2011 just sucked for power. In 2009, 87 players hit 20+ HR, 2010-77, 2011-68. With a 11.5% decline from 2009 to 2010 followed by another decline of 11.7% from 2010 to 2011, to wrack up 328 HR is just outlandish. Congrats!



Second is Dan Semsel and Ken Norred wracking up 119 Wins, 111 of which came from non-closers. They, in essence, won 48.7% of their games started when our league average was 38.2%. That was a money winning formula for them.

Thanks Wayne, we wanted to go solid on pitching with 2 aces early but the results from Kennedy in the 16th, Jurrjens in the 20th, and Nova in the 24th blew our projections out of the water. Too bad our offense sucked as bad as our pitching was good....we couldn't stay close after a nice early start.
