Jose Reyes has agreed to terms with the Miami Marlins, according to Dino Costa of SiriusXM.

Terms haven't been disclosed, though we know Miami made a pair of large offers to Reyes and Albert Pujols over the last week. Jorge Sedano of 790 AM The Ticket in Miami reported earlier that Reyes signing with the Marlins is "almost a done deal." Both reports haven't been backed by the club's beat writers -- yet. Reyes was seeking a Carl Crawford-type deal (seven years, $142 million). If the reports are indeed true, Hanley Ramirez would likely shift to third base next season. Reyes is coming of an impressive .337/.384/.493 campaign with the Mets.

This has not been confirmed by Reyes, his agent, or anybody from the Marlins.....

He said Reyes was .....'a good player'.....but that I (Hanley) am a shortstop

According to the NY Post, if the Mets fail to re-sign Jose Reyes, Daniel Murphy will likely start at second base in 2012 and Ruben Tejada would become the team's regular shortstop.

Here's my bold prediction.



Jose Reyes to the Yankees. Move Jeter to third, Arod everyday DH. What better way to keep those old legs fresh

Arod could spell Jeter during day games, only time they would be screwed would be interleague games in NL parks. This would also be they way to get Posada out and also the back up plan when jeter calls it quits in the next 2-3 years.



I also think that the yankees will overpay in a bidding war with the Red Sox.

Posada is already out, but you're right, that is bold.

Yes I know Jorge is out, but to solidify him being out. Not that they would've done some "mutual" agreement and keep him as a Yank.

I don't understand solidify, he's gone, but enough semantics.

Let Martin go have Montero catch until Romine is ready. Arod will be 37 and Jeter 38 this year. They arent getting younger, and giving time to dh would keep them fresher.

dont sleep on the phils here. they want to get younger at SS and they can afford reyes and let rollins walk.

So...removing Martin from equation leaves you two catchers with 72 CAREER innings caught in the majors. Not exactly a recipe for success; especially in the Bronx.

Rollins to the Brewers (sooth the fans for Fielder walking).



Mets to the crapper.



Phillies, Braves, and St. Louis "fighting" over Furcal, Barmes and Gonzalez.



It is a good year to be a FA shortstop.

Martin is not under contract for 2012 unless he signed and I missed it. He just released a statement saying he would like to be back in 2012. Montero start get a cheap experienced veteran as your back up ( cervelli?) Have Romine play AAA gor 2012. Yes there isnt the experience but sometimes teams will /have to take that gamble. Arrenciba, Lucroy, etc..

Arrenciba, Lucroy, etc.. You are correct, I believe. Martin is not yet under contract, but I bet the Yanks do resign him (I saw some projections that it would take about $6.0m) and use Montero at DH. That seems to make the most sense as Montero has the reputation of having poor defense.



Jeter stays at shortstop next year due to the crazy contract he signed. ARod stays at third:

Ultimately, Reyes signing with the Yanks makes little sense. The Yankees would have to prepare Jeter and ARod way ahead of time for a move of that magnitude. Real life, you just don't pisss off two mainstays in your lineup to sign Reyes.

I don't think Boston signs him either since Scutaro has been re-signed, Lowrie is still there, and Iglesias is still at AAA. Reyes is clearly the better option here, but the Red Sox do not want to lead the league in lead off men.

These teams have so much of an advantage in the pocket book that folks will even try to shoehorn a big time free agent onto their teams.

Offensively, they're good to go.

They need pitching, like most teams.

Agree with Dough here. Reyes to the Yanks won't happen. They don't need both him and ARod in wheelchairs at the end of their contracts!

Martin in my opinion will be back with the Yanks. He handled the staff pretty well and was above average at the plate. Cervelli can't hit, Montero might not be able to catch, making Martin a valuable player.

Yankees need a #2 pitcher... BAD.

Reyes, Hanley and Stanton should be able to produce a few runs! WOW! Now if they are serious about going after Pujols or Fielder, watch out for Miami NL East!

The problem w/ that is I believe w/ Houston's move to the AL there will be a lot more of those interleague games. At least I recall reading something to that effect. There was even some mumblings about FINALLY getting rid of the DH. I know that's pure speculation, but the Astros move will definitely affect the MLB schedule.

Nice move for the Marlins,Hanley looks like he will be going to 3b or will they ask him to start thinking about playing CF ?

* While the Marlins took a risk committing over $100MM to Reyes, he has the potential to turn into a genuine bargain, writes Dave Cameron of Fangraphs.
* Yahoo's Jeff Passan thinks the contract matches up favorably to Carl Crawford's deal, although "the idea of budget-conscious Mets and free-spending Marlins takes a minute to process."
