Okay, boys, I'll post my USA Today LABR team here and give you a full week to digest it before it makes next week's Sports Weekly issue. I'm happy with my team, but when you compete with John Hunt & Co., you never leave with exactly the team you'd like. And I will say that I was forced to overpay for the remaining stolen bases that were left at the draft as steals went for a major premium (Juan Pierre for $39 as an example).
Okay, here's my NL LABR Team:
C - Mike Piazza, $22
C - Brad Ausmus, $3
1B - Phil Nevin, $23
2B - Mark DeRosa, $6
SS - Alex Gonzalez (Chi.) $6
3B - Wes Helms, $11
CI - Craig Counsell, $3
MI - Bo Hart, $2
UT - Ben Grieve, $8
OF - Andruw Jones, $32
OF - Juan Encarnacion, $17
OF - Jay Payton, $15
OF - Tike Redman, $18
OF - Endy Chavez, $8
SP - Kerry Wood, $23
SP - Roger Clemens, $12
SP - Matt Clement, $11
SP - Mike Hampton, $8
SP - Sterling Hitchcock, $1
RP - Jason Isringhausen, $24
RP - Steve Kline, $2
RP - Rheal Cormier, $2
RP - Ricky Stone, $1
RP - Mike Remlinger, $1
Reserve Squad: Jose Hernandez, John VanderWal, Mike Neu, Orlando Hernandez, Rey Ordonez, Steve Reed.
Okay, I overpaid for Redman and Chavez, but desperately needed steals at that point. I'm also hurting at the middle infield, but hopefully my outfielders, Piazza and Nevin will make up for that and maybe Jose Hernandez will earn a fulltime job in Los Angeles. I need good health, obviously, with this team, but I think I have enough pitching and hitting to compete. We'll see.
Have at it. I look forward to the feedback and I'll list the NL Draft highlights in a bit.
