Congratulations to Dr Guadaloops in Las Vegas League 2 for besting the competition and finishing first in the NFBC in Week 2 with 2,447.5 points. The first-place finish was sparked by strong performances from Pedro Feliz (.250-3-10 with 6 runs), Brady Clark (.520-2-5) and Brian Roberts (.500-2-8). Dr Guadaloops Is The Week 2 Winner

Depth is the key to any successful fantasy baseball season. And to this point in the season, depth has been a strong component for Dr. Guadaloops in Las Vegas 2.

Strong enough to help that team finish first overall in the NFBC standings last week.

Dr. Guadaloops took home top honors in Week 2 with an event-best total of 2,447.5 points. For finishing first last week, Dr. Guadaloops wins an autographed 8x10 Tony Gwynn photo worth $200 from Upper Deck Authenticated.

“We are somewhat happy with our season so far and the way it has gone,” said Stephen Ranaghan, who co-owns the team with Geoff Sullivan. “We targeted depth (in the draft). Picking up John Patterson was very key for us last week. We think he can make the jump to the next level with some added command of his fastball.”

The first-place finish was sparked by strong performances from Pedro Feliz (.250-3-10 with 6 runs), Brady Clark (.520-2-5) and Brian Roberts (.500-2-8). Jason Marquis picked up a pair of wins on the mound, while combining with Estaban Loaiza for 21 total strikeouts.

Heading into the draft Ranaghan and Sullivan knew only one of them was going to make it to Vegas for the actual event (Ranaghan was attending a wedding on the day of the draft). So that led to the two of them talking extensively beforehand to make sure they were on the same page with the type of team they wanted to assemble.

“Amazingly enough we got a lot of the same players (in the draft) we had talked about in the days before,” Ranaghan said. “We really liked Pat Burrell as an Adrian Beltre-type bustout player similar to (what Beltre did) last year.

“We talked about getting Barry Bonds if he was there in the third or fourth rounds. We were successful in that endeavor. We also wanted to employ a few Boston Red Sox and David Ortiz was to be an anchor of our lineup from the offensive side and Tim Hudson from the mound. Brian Roberts has surprised us but with 50 doubles we saw a clear uptrend and possible spike in power.”

Never let it be said that the NFBC didn’t have a high priority on Ranaghan’s To Do list even though he couldn’t attend the actual draft. Although he was elsewhere he made certain he stayed on top of things by keeping in touch with Sullivan during breaks in the action.

“I was at a wedding and talking with Geoff about who we were targeting for future picks during the wedding vows,” Ranaghan said.

Ranaghan and Sullivan both reside in Boston. Ranaghan is an Internet Security Architect at a financial institution who has been married for less than a year with no children while Sullivan is single and is a doctor practicing as a general practitioner at a local area hospital.

While their team’s early season results have been promising, Ranaghan said he and Sullivan have also been pleased with the event itself.

“Geoff and I were very surprised to see stats updated only a couple of hours after games had finished that night,” he said. “We are amazed at the responsiveness of you folks to the entrants requests and suggestions. The NFBC has been run very well by your team.

“You deserve a lot of credit for your care to this endeavor. It really shows.”
