Free Agent Tango

The Boss is on vacation, so I filled the void with looking at my leagues FA activity. Just a few fun facts:

56 ballplayers who were drafted have been released and not picked up again (so far)

55 ballplayers who were not drafted have been picked up and are still on their respective teams. The lease expensive of these pick-ups of course cost $1 (five of these). The most expensive has been Adam Bernero ($301). Four others are over $100(Willy Taveras $201 (me), Bill Hall $146, Todd Jones $115 and Tyler Walker $112). The average is $38.

31 players who were drafted were later picked up by another team. Four of those pick-ups cost the new owners more than $100 (Laynce Nix $237, Richie Weeks $154, Jorge Julio and Rafael Betancourt both $111).

45 undrafted players were picked up, later released and are still in the FA pool now. Average price for these players was a little over $36. The most expensive were Jim Brower ($226), Matt Herges (me - $188) and Damon Hollins ($127).

6 drafted players were released by there original teams, bought by another team, and subsequently dropped by their new team - Ty Wigginton, Aaron Miles, Tim Worrell, Kieth Ginter, Endy Chavez, and Sidney Ponson (highest paid at $43).

8 undrafted players were picked up, released, and have been picked up again by different teams. These retreads have drained a total of $732 FA bucks out of the bank lead by Mike McDougal's total amount spent of $314 ($101 and $213 in the two pickup transactions).

8 drafted ballplayers were released by their original teams, bought, released and bought again. These gentlemen have combined to drain a further $565 FA dollars lead by Chris Reitsma ($17 and $213) and Rob Mackowiak ($5 and $100).

Three undrafted ballplayers have been picked up, released, picked up again and released again. They are Julian Tavarez (me once), Kaz Ishii, and Reed Johnson. They have drained $221 lead by Tavarez ($76 & $51). I was the $51.

Russ Adams was released by the team that drafted him and was picked up/released twice. He only drained $29 FA dollars.

Finally, the most active player has been....get your lottery tickets out...Scott Elarton. I drafted him (don't laugh, he was a 30th round flyer for me) and has been Picked up three times and dropped twice. After me, all of the activity has been with one team. I believe that this is the only player to be picked up more than once by a team in my league (I could be wrong, but there haven't been many). Total cost of all of this activity has been $50 FA dollars.

All of this garbage is just for your reading pleasure when you run out of those hilarious "Bazooka Joe" comics and gives you a little insight into what my mind drifts to when not otherwise gainfully employed. Any real information you might take from this is accidental, I asure you.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
