The debut Don Mathis NFBC Mid-Season League will host a mid-season draft on Wednesday, July 13th where the first half stats count. It's a unique concept and we're close to filling out one league. I know it's not fair to those who are competing, but think about that concept now and tell me, who goes No. 1? Are Derrek Lee and Brian Roberts worthy??? Who goes in the Top 15 as first-round picks? It's an interesting concept and worthy of some fun on the message boards. Let's hear it from participants and non-participants if you think it's worth talking about. It could be fun as guys like Jason Schmidt may go low in this draft and much, much higher in leagues that just use second half stats.

Anyway, it seemed like a topic worth discussing. Basically, who is the first half MVP and can that person sustain this excellence all through the second half? Inquiring minds want to know?

That list is close except for Turnbow. No way he should be 12th or in front of Cordero for that matter. Cordero should be the #1 closer taken as of this morning. Between him and Trunbow, there are 10+ better closers and maybe 20 SPs.

Can you tell me why you have him so high? I am trying to find the right mix of performance and projections for this league...

Thanks,

John

The number 9 spot is a tossup, Crawford or Roberts

I am confused as to why Arod isn't higher on these lists - if I think about leading production AND proven ability, plus a great line up that can turn out 13 runs in an inning at any time. I would have to put Arod at first or perhaps second to Tejada who is just doing disgusting work as a SS... Abreu makes sense to be high and Pujols

My top 5 would be

Arod

Pujolis (though very tight here between these 2)

Tejada (postion, position, position)

Abreu (amazing power/speed combo)

Derrek Lee (I expect a slight cool off here, remember the guy NEVER hit >100 RBI, or >32 HR or more than .280!!!!!!!), so I put him high becuase you get those 1/2 stats, but he can't be expected to keep this up...

Nothing against Don Mathis, but this should be called the Fox & Hound league... some teams will attempt to be the fox and draft almost exclusively off of first half stats and set themselves a huge lead. Others will employ the hound and figure out the best mix of year end total stats and will be chasing down the foxes the entire back half.

Should make for interesting observations of strategy ;)
