I don't know if you fall into this category, but I'll make a generalization. The majority of owners in this event have never been in a high stakes competition before. They will be under enormous pressure right from the start. On top of that, you only get 1 minute per pick. These poor bloats are gonna have trouble keeping up with their own picks, let alone tracking the roster of every owner. Let em try. It'll be like watching the Titanic sink.

In defense of Gordon, I can tell you that it's hard to tell if someone has a legal roster or not while you are drafting your own team. For one, several players can fill several positions. So, if I draft Pujols in round one, are you filling an outfield spot for me or first base while you are tracking my team? How about Desi Relaford? MI, 3rd, 2nd or SS? See.... not easy while you are completing your picks too.

Just make sure your roster is legal and let those who don't worry about that later.

Best regards,

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

I am sure that Greg or Tom will ease your mind but let me tell you what I understand. It does sound as if you missed all the fun and are trying to catch up. Consider it a lost cause.

The NFBC rules were 20 games at a position. Castro had but 19. Same with Fullmer as a 1B. Publications are not bound by rules such as 20 games. Some sites allow for less. Some even gave Arod 3B eligibility before he played a single game as a 3B based on the Yankees decision. As a result, Castro and Fullmer are only INITIALLY qualified as a DH (let's drop that pinch-hitter terminology) until they reach 20 games played at a position this season. After 20 games, Castro will acquire eligibility as a catcher. Consider Klesko who will add OF eligibility after 20 games.

After a shakey start, Tom and Greg have stated that the STATS data base is valid and contains the allowable eligibilities. If STATS says a player is qualified at a position, then he is.

Dude, what Viper said. STATS has every player entered according to our eligibility rules and we discuss minor-leaguers who get called up before their eligibility is listed. Colorado's Luis Gonzalez, for instance, didn't play in the majors last year and thus was listed at first base because he played the most games last year in the minors at first base (43 to be exact). So where he's listed in our eligibility lists is where he will qualify.

As for Ramon Castro, he spent all of last year with the Marlins and failed to play 20 games at any position, although he did pinch-hit more than 20 times. In our book, he was a utility player and thus that's where he qualifies until he plays 20 games somewhere this year. Many Rotisserie leagues put a player where they played the most games the year before, but our rules are slightly different. Not too difficult to calculate, hopefully, but slightly different. Good luck the rest of the way and don't be afraid to e-mail me directly if you ever have any eligibility questions. Oh, and by the way, I'm too old to be called Dude.

Greg,

Is Lankford qualified to being playing as an OF since he did not play last year or should he just be qualified at a UT?

Plymouth, the rules state that if a player did not play at all last season, his eligibility would revert to the last position he was eligible at when he was active. For Lankford, that means he's eligibile as an OF.
