He was picked up in NYC #3. As far as I can tell, he hasn't been called up from the minors yet. Am I missing something? Why was he allowed to be picked up?

If Claussen was drafted in your league and subsequently waived, he will remain in the available free agent pool until picked up. Doesn't matter if he's in the majors or minors, in Japan, retired, or dead--only that he was drafted.

Hate to disagree with the overall leader, but I don't see any evidence to back up what KoQ says above. Nothing in the written rules, nothing I've seen here on the msg boards, nothing that was stated on draft day.

The rule amendment on draft day was to the effect of "anyone can be drafted today, but only players on 25-man roster (or DL) can be claimed during the season. If you want a minor leaguer, get him today." I interpreted that to mean that regardless of whether a guy got waived in NFBC or was undrafted, he could only be subsequently picked up during the season if he was on a major-league roster (or DL).

I think we need a ruling from Greg here.

I now see Greg's statement to this effect in the other thread above. Still not sure the origin of the ruling, but it does appear he made it at some point. Communication of rules issues like this HAS to improve for the NFBC to thrive going forward.

Just to close the loop on this, Greg posted the appropriate rule reference in the Chris Saenz thread. As usual, he's on top of things:

7. Free Agents: Any player who is not on a team roster within your league and is on a major-league roster or once was on an NFBC team in your league is considered a free agent for that league. Even players on the MLB disabled list are eligible to be picked up during the FAAB bidding process. The player pool is deemed closed of new free agents two hours (5 p.m. EST on Sundays) before the FAAB bidding deadline.
