Draft order selection method?
I figure, why bother asking about whether pitchers are better than hitters or how many closers I should draft. I will just cut to the chase. Well, first off, this really belongs with the other thread, but, anyway, people just wanted to share some ideas. It's always going to be a struggle to decide how much you can share and how much to keep to yourself, but it's the same thing mlb teams go through. GMs, at least cogent and coherent ones (Kenny Williams doesn't count), will try to explain why a club went with a specific player and how he fits on the team--or why they drafted the way they did in the first year draft. They're not going to tell everything that went into it and they're not going to make their systems sound so convincing that other teams are going to use the same ones.
People who read my posts know all too well that I am not shy about discussing how I put math to work in my evaluation of players and ultimately in my draft day strategy, but I'm not going to share my equations with anyone.
This is a message board. You can post messages or not. That's the beauty of it. If you don't want to share what you do, keep it to yourself. If you want to share then that's what it's here for. I'm sure no one changed their ideas based on the little bit that others used in their posts.

Draft order selection method?
Errr, no thanks, Ill keep by BBID cash for the season, when it counts. Im good enough to pick from any spot, dont need to waste my BBID on a draft spot, due to some peeps inability to draft after the 3rd pick......Prepare, Prepare......
Draft order selection method?
OK, So that should mean you're in favor of the proposal. Since you feel comfortable drafting from any spot, you should love the idea that your competition will start the season with less money. Right?
Draft order selection method?
Personally, I will prepare for all spots in the draft. But, obviously, I would have a couple preferences.
I'm not suggesting this for this year, but i have seen leagues that picked teams out of a hat, then as you are picked, choose your draft position. much like the Kentucky Derby.
Some owners may not want the first choice because they can't decide between ARod and Juan Uribe. So they choose the second position.
OK, that wasn't a fair comparison. Uribe doesn't have 3B eligibility anymore...

No, no, no...you all missed the best solution of all. Take a piece of several of the suggestions and add a little spin.
Pick the drafts positions live THREE days before the actual draft, owners required to be in attendance (Honey, I HAVE to go early...it is the RULES!). The have Greg and/or Tom write down the entries as they are pulled out of the hat by Buffy or Amber or Tawny or whatever. After the number is drawn, have a beer to celebrate with the owner whose name was just chosen. Repeat process until all 300 are pickled....I mean picked!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

It might be kind of fun to have this drawing 30 minutes before the main event on Saturday morning... all the Ultimate owners are in the main event, correct? Might be neat to do a Kentucky Derby style pull at that point - we'll all be prepared over-the-top anyway, so 1 day notice should be enough to refine things.
Greg, what do you think?

Like I said, if you ever got all 15 owners to agree on anything, I'm all for it. But I know some of the Ultimate owners are chomping at the bit to get their draft positions RIGHT NOW! I'm just trying to get 10 more signups so we can have three Ultimate Leagues. Once we do that, then we'll finalize this draft process, but right now the rules state randomly selected out of a hat!
