Scoring Change 5/24!
Greg,
There was a scoring change associated with Greg Maddux for a 5/24 game against the Marlins. Will STATS be reflecting this change?
"A scoring change from a May 24 game against the Marlins has taken five earned runs away from Greg Maddux's record, lowering his ERA from 4.99 to 4.60. Scorer Ron Jernick said he made the change after the Cubs appealed the May 24 ruling to MLB. The reversal also takes a hit away from Hanley Ramirez and gives Ronny Cedeno an error."

Does this mean the Tri Star prize winner for that week will have to ship his prize to the real winner.

Greg,
It was period 7, if that helps you and STATS. There is precedent, as Chris Carpenter had a scoring change over the all-star break.
We are talking about 5 earned runs, which is considerable, so I hope STATS is on top of this.

My league on CBSSportsline reflected this scoring change... when will STATS?

We have always finalized the stats of players within four days of games being played or otherwise we'd have to backtrack all weekly prizes. It would also be possible for stats to change after the season that would affect league and overall prizes, so we need to have some set deadline.
I will talk with STATS again about this particular case and post a reply soon, but at this point I have not asked them to change Maddux's stats.
Leave it up to the Cubs to make a scoring change two months later. Obviously the Week 7 Weekly Winner doesn't have to worry about losing that prize as that contest is finalized. We'll do what's best for the season-long contest as obviously five earned runs is very significant and we want the year-end NFBC stats to reflect what the year-end MLB stats are. That's the goal, after all, to accumulate their statistics, so we'll look closely at this individual case. I'll talk with STATS tomorrow.

I don't understand all of this. We go by the major league stats. Therefore, whats the question? Of course, the stats need to be adjusted. Who cares about the weekly prize.

Greg's point: what if he dishes-out $105,000 on October 2nd, and then the Cubs make another significant scoring change several weeks later -- a change that takes the overall champion out of first place.

Greg,
Why not just hold off on annointing the official winners for 1 month till after then end of the season? This would enable you to be very confident that a scoring change won't the results??? We are big boys and girls, we can wait 1 month

interesting thread. Adjustments are made all the time in baseball and football. I'm not sure what the timeframe is for football and I have no clue what the timeframe is in my other baseball league. I do several H2H leagues and it is hard to think that a May result could be changed.
A rule suggestion for 2007 would be
(1) weekly statistics are based on results thru Sunday and any adjustment made thou Monday.
(2) full year statistics will include all adjustments made through seven day after the conclusion of the regular season.
This confirms weekly winners and allows for a final week of annual adjustments. You could waiit until Christmas if your wanted but there has to be some stop point.
Is there a way to know about any active situations like this when the season concludes?

Spy What happened with Maddux is pretty rare, at least that length of time frame. Four days after the regular season concludes is fine. Again, it's important to reflect MLB's official stats, while at the same time having a fair amount of time to reward our winners.

Is there a way to know about any active situations like this when the season concludes? Agreed on all Mike. For football, our stats are official three days after the weekend games. For baseball, we have the four-day period intact with STATS for the weekly contest. Most changes are made the next day if at all, but this one was appealed to MLB and decided much later. That rarely happens. Our overall contest stats will be finalized four days after the season is complete.

Greg,
This change was only applied at the league-level. The overall standings don't currently reflect the change.
My league ERA is at 4.560 but my overall ERA is 4.604. They shouldn't differ.

Scoring Change 5/24!
Hi Greg,
The Maddux issue has not been corrected. When the adujutment is made my ERA goes from 4.260 to 4.227 as we enter the final day of the season. That moves my one spot ahead of Royal Pain and from fourht place to third place as we enter the final day of the season. Now there are a dozen other scenarios that could affect the final standings. But this is one. And it could be quite a pain to explain.

Aaron, STATS did look at your team last week as you requested and Maddux's stats had been adjusted. You can contact me tomorrow if you still think there is an error, but we have checked your team thoroughly.
