I think this is question will probably best answered by Dave Clum, Diamond Kings, but here it goes. What the hell are the Marlins thinking. They have 5 potential closers already on the roster, with better than average stuff, Gregg, Owens, Tank, Nolasco and Lindstrom and currently the Marlins as a team are going nowhere, what can Benitez possibly add? He is definitely on the downside of his career and he is not a better closer option than any of the 5 listed, except for Nolasco, since he is on the DL. I just do not understand the trade, Dave or others, please chime in with your opinions

SF was in a bums rush to ship AB out and took the only concrete deal on the table. A couple weeks in fla to show his knees ok again and then they'll flip him (and his small contract) to a team in dire need of an end game guy, phi, det, etc for more than a messenger.

The best I have heard so far is that the marlins do not like the idea of a "young" guy as the closer at this point of the season.I also think Benitez was obtained for flip value. It is hard to find fault with the trades that this club has made in the past couple of years.I do not agree with crying the blues while pocketing 60 million dollars two years in a row. But,they sure do find the prospects on the cheap.
