Have the rules changed from last year. Why are there so many minor leaguers on the free agent list--like Philip Humber and Jordan Schafer?

It made sense earlier in the week, but most teams have cut their rosters down to the 25-player limit.

more likely because STATS still has pre-season pages - the season hasn't started yet for all teams.
I doubt that players in the minors will be on the free agent list until activated OR if they were drafted in your league and then dropped.

I believe they will be removed. If you have them listed as a player to pick up, I don't think you will be allowed to pick them up. I had a league where Kershaw was in the pool. I put $1 bid on him so I would remember that he was in the player pool. When I removed my bid, he wasn't in the pool any more.
You can draft anyone you want, but they will have to be on the 25 man roster before they can be picked up. This week they are probably adjusting the pool late to remove some players, but in the future weeks they have to be added to the roster by 7 AM EST on Sunday.
Here is the rule:
7. Free Agents: Any player who is not on a team roster within your league and is on a major-league roster or once was on an NFBC team in your league is considered a free agent for that league. Even players on the MLB disabled list are eligible to be picked up during the FAAB bidding process. The player pool is deemed closed of new free agents each Sunday at 7 a.m. EST before the FAAB bidding deadline. Participants should note that MLB unsigned veteran free agents at the time of Draft Day are eligible to be picked up or bid on in the NFBC and NFBC Auction Leagues. In the case of Auction Leagues, that player will then only qualify to be used in the league that he signs in (i.e., that free agent signs with an NL team and is bid on in the NFBC AL and NL Auction Leagues, he accumulates stats only for the NFBC NL Auction League team).
It is the 25 man roster not the 40.

This is the message that appears on the Free Agents page:
"A player must be on a 25-man major-league roster or once on an NFBC team in your league to be listed as a free agent below. The player pool is deemed closed of new free agents two hours (5 p.m. EST on Sundays) before the FAAB bidding deadline."
There are players on the list that do not fit that description.

if you pick up those guys be prepared to have it reversed. It is irrelevant whether they are on the 40 man. Either have to be on a major league roster or previously owned/drafted in your league.

I just mentioned this on another thread. STATS has informed me that any player who was still on a team's roster by this morning at 7 a.m. will remain within that league's free agent listings. We locked the lists at 7 a.m. before final cuts were made by some teams and those players will remain available for the week 1 FAAB period. Any player that is available to be picked up in your league is eligible to be picked up. Good luck all.

Not exactly true. The 7 a.m. free agent deadline for this year will allow some players to be available in FAAB who may have been cut on Sunday as we are not updating those lists with additions or cuts. All of the players in FAAB right now were in STATS' system as of 7 a.m. this morning and are available to be picked up. Good luck all.

The locking isn't a one-way thing -- it works both ways.

There are players on the list that do not fit that description. This needs to be updated as obviously we changed this to 7 a.m. on Sundays this year. We are not adding free agents or cutting players from the pool after 7 a.m. each Sunday.

I thought when the free agent rules referred to players on the "major league" roster, it referred to the 25 man roster. Some of the guys on the FAAB list were sent to the minors days ago.

STATS gets official moves from MLB and they said all players who are within your league's free agent pool were still on MLB rosters as of this morning. Bid on anyone who is in your league's free agent pool because the winning bidder will get him.
As I've told a few folks already, the goal of the early 7 a.m. free agent deadline is to make sure you folks don't have to keep checking the free agent pool every hour on Sunday. What's there at 7 a.m. on Sunday is what's going to be there all day long. The last thing we want is for you to make final free agents bids after 7 a.m. and then find out that three of your bids were wiped out because teams demoted those prospects on Sunday afternoon.
This first week may contain players who will be sent down before Opening Day, but again STATS gets their official lists from MLB and the players they have available weren't officially sent down by this morning, at least according to STATS' records.
Good luck all.
