Greg,

Has he OFFICIALLY been placed on the DL yet? I would like to switch him out today, but can't as of yet.

Thanks!

This from MLB.com last night..."Wells, who missed three weeks in June with a fractured left wrist, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday and he'll likely be sidelined until mid to late August."...Sounds like he's on the DL to me. I've only got internet access for about 2 more hours and then I'm out for the day. Hope this can get done.

Thanks! i believe he needs to be on the DL list at midnight last night. if he wasn't there this morning, then you'll have to wait till next week.

Actually, it was said last night that he was placed on the DL (Thursday), so it should have been ready by midnight.

Unless I'm missing something?

The atricle was on MLB.com last night. It's there for all to see. On the Jays page under team headlines. "07/10/2008 8:47 PM ET

Wells to DL with strained hamstring"..This rule always seems to find a way to bite me in the ass.

What I've seen a lot of the last few years... A player is "reported" to be on the DL, but they aren't OFFICIALLY added until the following day.

I think we've seen that guys who get hurt during a Wednesday night game don't get on the DL within 24 hours. It just doesn't happen that fast. And the fact that the Blue Jays put him on the DL on Friday and made it retroactive to Thursday doesn't help our cause at all.

July 13th...Blue Jays placed outfielder Vernon Wells on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 10, with a left hamstring strain...guess he was not on the DL after all...

According to mlb.com, he WAS placed on the DL Thursday the 10th.

Greg, from my understanding, this transaction list is exact, if they make it retroactive to a certain date, they always list it....in this case, there isn't a retroactive date for Wells.

I'm just telling you what I know, that if he had been on the DL in time STATS would have added him. I'd love to have every injury added immediately to help everyone out on the weekend games, but injuries that happen on Wednesday night usually don't get officially on the MLB DL lists by Thursday at midnight. And we made this deadline so that folks would have a concrete time to check on the status of these players, rather than log on all day on Friday to find out.

Sorry. I wish we would have had him on there this week, but the rules didn't allow it.

I was up about 7am on Friday. I have Wells and wondered if he was noted as being on the DL list. After I saw that STATS didn't have him DLed yet, I checked the transaction wire on ESPN, CBS and MLB. None had him on the DL yet. The fact that the transaction was not on the MLB.COM site on Friday morning but shows up there as a Thursday transaction now makes me think that Toronto did it very late on Thursday and it wasn't reported that evening on the wires.

Just another example of why this is a bad rule. Injuries are part of the game. We shouldn't be trying to attach rules to a part of our game that is basicly the luck of the draw any given week.
