Lineup submission

Post by *Diamond-Kings* » Fri Feb 24, 2012 11:20 am

According to the rules (copied & pasted from this website and below for reference)

It reads that owners cannot move starting pitchers after their Monday lineup submission. However, for batters, you may update (resubmit) your lineup before Friday's games. Hence, batters have the opportunity to move in-and-out a few times a week (Monday-Sunday). But according to the rules, owners do not have the same ability to do this with pitchers.

Now, I reviewed the roster movement from week-to-week on a few of last year's teams (2011 main event archieve) and it appears that both hitters and pitchers were resubmitted on Fridays.

The rule doesn't matter to me either way, I just wanted to clarify........Is this new from last year?

11. Lineup submission
The weekly deadline for setting your NFBC starting lineup is 6:55 PM ET on Monday. Players who are on teams participating in games with a scheduled start time prior to the Monday deadline at 6:55 PM ET, will be locked 5 minutes before the scheduled start time for their game. No changes involving players on these teams with early games will be allowed after this deadline for their game regardless of whether or not their game actually starts as scheduled.
Once again in 2012, NFBC team owners are allowed to switch out any hitter (or hitters) from their starting lineup and replace him with a hitter from their reserve roster on Fridays. The deadline for doing that is 5 minutes before the start of an early Friday game or at 6:55 pm ET for all players involved in night games. Players who are on teams participating in games with a scheduled start time prior to the 6:55 PM ET deadline will be locked 5 minutes before the scheduled start time for their game. No changes involving players on those teams with early games will be allowed after this deadline for their game regardless of whether or not their game actually starts as scheduled. Pitchers will not be allowed to be moved out of your starting lineup at any time during the season; what is set on Monday remains for the remainder of the week for all pitchers.

Good question. The answer is the rule was changed this year. Last year you were allowed to move pitchers in and out on Friday's, this year you are not. There a number of reasons for this, but we need not go there again. :D

The rule has been revised from last year, but last year you were only allowed to change pitchers at will on Fridays during the last 2 weeks of the year. In the first 6 months of the season, the only way to change a pitcher on Friday was if they were on the DL.

This led to some angle shooting and people figured out ways to play the system, the major one was if on your bench you had a pitcher who was on the DL and a mid-to-low tier pitcher who had a 2-step with a start on Tuesday and a start on Sunday (someone like Rich Harden just for example). Say that Tuesday Harden start was in Yankee Stadium, but the Sunday start was at home in Oakland vs Seattle -- wouldn't it be beneficial to put the DL'ed pitcher in for the Monday-Thursday period, then put Harden in for the weekend for the DL pitcher -- that way you skip the at NYY start, but still get to throw the vs SEA start.

They wanted to eliminate these loopholes.
