Leagues per City - best guess

What is your best guess on how many of the 20 leagues each city will be drafting?

Hmm, best guess? Wow, I'm not even reasonably sure how many Greg has right now.

Alright, I'll take a stab:

NYC: 5

Chicago 4

Vegas 8

Well, I know exactly how many teams we have in each city, but more are coming in. You can certainly go through the whole thread on the main message board and see how many we have. When all is said and done, I'm convinced we'll have at least seven leagues in Las Vegas and New York and at least six in Chicago. I'm hopeful we get two AL and two NL auctions in Vegas and at least one each in New York and Chicago, but we'll see how those go. I felt adding Rotisserie auctions was a good addition for the industry and I think we'll fill those more towards the end of signups than early on. But so far I couldn't be more pleased with the support we've had for this contest and the signups are coming in better than expected. We're going to fill this baby up sooner rather than later.

Greg, If support for this contest continues to grow and we get 30 leagues instead of 20, does that mean all the overall prizes will be pro rated up to a $150,000 1st prize, etc?

No, the $100,000 grand prize will remain the same. The MLBPA is working with legislators on a bill that states that grand prizes in contests like this cannot go up or down based on the number of entries. But should we be so lucky to get above the 300 teams, we will definitely give back the same percentage of money that we're giving back now in league prizes. We are definitely not keeping the extra money, we would find a way to increase the individual league prizes and maybe even pay down to more teams in the overall contest. But the $100,000 grand prize is incentive enough and we'd rather reward the league winners if we were to go above 300 teams. That's a problem we'd like to have, but right now we're just shooting for 300.

Thanks, Greg! I'm not the first to say this, but it bears repeating: I really appreciate all your fast, attentive replies. Also, I think I speak for everyone that it feels like we are all in on the ground floor of a great annual event that is run with the utmost professionalism and integrity. Word of mouth will be tremendous and I wouldn't be surprised if the NFBC gets 1000 entries in a few years. The three city draft is pure genius!

You need the number of entries to be divisible by 15 in each city, but I'm sure that you don't want to turn anybody away, what happens if each city gets enough additional entrants to form another league or two between them, are they just out of luck or have you come up with some creative way to accommodate them?

Hey Greg,

So are you talking about league winners receiving $ 10,000 for example, if the amount of teams go up....everything going up but the grand prize ?

Wow, you go off to a Super Bowl party and come back to find some nice comments. Thanks much and we also feel we're onto something good. The regional concept will work. As for the league prizes, let's not speculate on how big first prize will be until we reach our goal of 300 teams. We would love to hit that mark and end signups at that point. As for odd number of teams in each city, we will end signups early before leaving half a league hanging. We will manage that closely and just have to determine at the right time in each city when we have full leagues and then shut off the signups. That could be March 14 or March 10, depending on how things go. That's why I'm telling people not to hold off to the last minute if you think you're going to compete in the NFBC. Thanks guys and I'll keep you informed when we get to that point.
