Question...

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Mar 01, 2004 1:55 pm

Well, thanks for the post. All of the speakers we have at the Welcome Receptions are not participants in the NFBC, I guarantee you that. Ron Shandler of BaseballHQ.com is joining us in New York and he is not participating. In fact, he's going to work the draft boards for us on Saturday. Brandon Funston of ESPN.com is not participating in Las Vegas and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball America is not participating in Chicago. So I guess that's just message board fodder, but thanks for the heads up.

Every league and every draft position in the NFBC will be picked randomly. The one concern is having so many Leaderboard Sports guys in one league in Las Vegas. I think everyone would like to see them spread out among our 5-6 leagues since they are the largest single group of players who know each other. If by the luck of the draw that happens, great. If 14 of them land in one league, we may have to deal with that. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for the response. Agreed - how the drafts fill won't matter, just need it to be fair and random.

I think the fair way is that EVERYONE is placed in a league by a random draw. Opens up too many doors if you let one group have ANY control over league placement.

The draft order will certainly be random, that's a guarantee. Hell, we'll video tape it on March 15 if someone wants verification. That will be as boring as some home videos Uncle Rick used to make us sit through back in the '60s, but I'll do that if you'd like.

I want to clarify that I have complete faith in all that you're doing, Greg.

I didn't mean to imply anything from my original post. Although, re-reading it, that probably sounds a bit naive on my part.

As far as the Leaderboard Sports teams go, we do all know each other and we do use these high stakes Vegas games as a convention time for the group, but we don't share winnings (at least I didn't get any of Hojin's money) and we are very competitive with each other. I hope the group teams are spread throughout the leagues,

because I would rather face a league full of experts than some of these Leaderboard guys and I would hate to hear the "C" word if a league full of Leaderboard teams produced the overall champ.

Weenies- Why would you want friends in the same leagues with each other? Isn't the point to make the competion as FAIR as possible? I can live with whatever Greg does, and can understand it puts him in a tough spot regardless. But I still don't understand the logic of what you're saying at all. "Gee, two teams are run by the same manager, and they're in the same league. Fine with me as long as it was done randomly?"

Too bad people don't review and think about their posts before actually making them. It would diminsh the # of owners who seemingly have limited intelligence.

No problem with the question, Karl. It's a fair question and I've assured everyone that every league in every city will be randomly selected once we have concluded taking signups. Actually, I'm excited for that day as it will really identify the NFBC and each league can start their individual smack talking. We have done everything on the up-and-up to this point, so there is no reason for me or anyone here at Krause Publications to do anything but that for the league selections. I'm a Midwesterner -- you can trust me!!!

Gekko and M Co are right, Greg, I should have put more thought into this thread before posting it. I know that now.

BW please quit editing and deleting your posts before we can read them. I need some humorous entertainment.

Greg - Will we be asked for "Team Names" (when and how?) or will we just use our names?

Thanks,

Pete

Greg - In the auction leagues, who will track dollars spent and still available? Is any running count posted for all to see? I see you mentioned last night that in the LABR you twice bid more than you had available; so I'm wondering who told you that?

Thanks,

Pete
