Will we "Saturday-only" participants be allowed to kibitz the Friday league(s) in Chicago?

Do you mean come in and watch? If so, we would probably allow a little bit of that. I can check with Greg to make sure that's cool with him, but as long as folks don't get loud or interrupt the auctions in any way I don't have a problem allowing some of the Saturday folks to watch the auctions on Friday.

don't allow bloats who don't pay to "get a free look" at how players are valued by their NFBC competitors. if someone wants to watch the auction, charge them $100 and add it to the prize pool for the specific auction league.

Interesting point Gordon. Like I said, I'll talk to Greg about that and if the situation arises I'll let everyone know how we'll handle it.

I should add I don't have a problem with people in the main draft checking out the auctions just to see what they're like and see if it's something they want to get involved with in 2006. From that standpoint I think it would be fine. But if people are there on a scouting mission I agree that's something that could cause a problem -- possibly minor, but still a problem on some level.

Absolutely. This won't be an "on site" decision in each city. I'm going to talk to Greg about it and we'll let everyone know.

OK I just talked to Greg and here is what we will do. If people competing on Saturday want to check out the auctions on Friday we will allow them to do so for a short period of time. Basically we'll let them get a feel for the auction process but Gordon's point is a good one that we don't want people in there for too long so they can possibly be on a scouting mission.



So if you're interested, you would need to get in touch with Greg in Vegas; myself in Chicago or Rocky in NY on Friday. We'll walk you in and let you check things out for a couple of minutes and that would be it.

They will come in "unarmed." That's a guarantee. Not that I'm frisking anybody in Chicago just so you know.

Oh sure bring a stripper friend for Rocky in NY and leave me out in the cold in Chicago. I'm not keen on that idea at all, Gordon.

GG has a good point. I didn't stop to consider the Mata Hari aspect of viewing from the sideline. My interest was purely for next year. I wanted to compare the NFBC auction league with our "friends" leagues.

Well...they would be scouting for nothing if we did the exciting "find out your draft position on draft day" method...one that is very unpopular here...but very fun in home leagues.

Do they get the pricing up to $30 on a Pujols in 2 bids, or do they nickle and dime it a dollar at a time? Do some owners bid like crazy and then stop when it gets a little high while others don't bid at all until it gets high and just when it looks over they bid 1 extra dollar? Is there any razzing?

What are people using to keep track of bids, computer or paper? How quick does the gavel bang? Is there a "going once, going twice before the gavel bangs? Is there even a gavel? If there are any teams, do they argue with each other? etc. etc.



I'm not doing this for any strategy change, just curious and enjoyment sake. That's all.

I haven't read all of this thread yet, but I am 100% against anyone else there.



In the football auction last year, non participants made it VERY hard for any auction owner sitting within 15 feet of the door to hear the auction in progress.



There was a blatant disrespect to those that were drafting. We repeatedly asked them to be quiet, and they repeatedly kept talking.

Agree - if you want to experience the feel, pony up the cash and come play. If you want to stand at the door quietly and peak in for 30 seconds? Fine, but if you distract the people who are paying to play and trying to concentrate then that's ridiculous.



Every auction is different. Getting a feel for the pace of an auctioneer has nothing to do with the game. Unlike a snake draft, you have to consider EVERY nomination for bidding in an auction. It takes a lot more focus and a lot more hours.

There was one player, can't remember who, that was brought up, and I never knew who it was until after he sold. Luckily, I didn't want him.
