I was in the Friday night mixed auction league with 5 other teams from Chicago and 9 from NY. I was also in the main event on Saturday.
Good
1. Draft day was exciting
2. Chatting with other owners and KP staff was cool
3. My facilitators were knowledgeable
Auction Bad
1. Teleconference auction took 9+ hours!!! Way too long. I doubt I would join one again.
2. The auction started without anyone saying it was starting. I didn’t even get a chance to bid on the first player thrown out.
3. Everytime a Chicago owner threw out a bid at the same time as a NY owner, the NY owner got the bid.
4. A couple times the bidding closed before some teams knew
5. There must be a better way of keeping track of dollar amounts
6. After the auction portion was over, it was stated that the 7 reserve rounds were not serpentine!! Tom got it fixed within a few minutes, but why are we having that discussion on auction day?
Draft Bad
1. I (and others) could still hear picks from other leagues.
2. After the first league was done with their 30 rounds, the noise level shot up considerably as they were discussing their picks. Tom did his best to quiet them down, but it was still loud
3. Having an open bar next to one of the leagues must have been tough for that league. I wasn’t in that league, but I heard the noise level was high while owners were visiting the bar.
Observation
To all the owners who used the no minimum innings pitched rule to their favor…kudos to you. In the future, I think it would benefit this event if there were some small minimum innings pitched, maybe something like 270 innings. Having a team made up of one reliever who pitches 1/3 of an inning and 8 pitchers who are out for the year isn’t really in the spirit of fantasy baseball, IMO.
Question
1. Were owners in NY or Chicago allowed to use their laptops with them “plugged in” while the draft was going on? How about at the auction? Any of the owners in Vegas or NY see this happen? Greg? KoQ?
