And the winner seems to be John Patterson (Wash, SP) in Vegas 1 where Todd Zola acquired him for $417 with a runner-up bid of zero. I admit I can't believe no one else bid on him.

Ummmm.... I don't think that Zola is a newbie... Maybe desperate, but definitely not a newbie.

Neither desperate nor a newbie.

Let's check back in 5 months and see if it was "unbelievable" I bid 417 or "unbelievable" no one else bid 418.

It's never too early to make sure you secure a key element to your team.

I hope Zola is right, I got Patterson for either $11 or $21 this week, so I hope his expectations of Patterson are more than right

It will be very interesting too see how your $417 investment pans out over the nexxt few weeks. $417 just seems way high, when most leagues were winning him with bids between $25 and $100.

But hey.... Its your money, and we're glad too see you spend it on "a key element".

Excellent use of gratuitous quotes and the sarcastic eye roll to emphasize your point

Yes we will as he is in my active lineup. For the record, the opposing pitcher is irrelevant to me unless he is a really good hitter. I like Patterson at home a lot.

It's never too early to make sure you secure a key element to your team. Nothing at all wrong with valuing a player. I do tend to agree that even if he is worth $417 it seems likely he could have been had for less.

Having said that, I think Todd has earned a certain amount of latitude given his known experience level.

It makes me far more intrigued about going out and picking up John Patterson in a variety of places far more than it makes me feel like I should chastise Todd.

Appreciate the tip ;)

at home- 7.14 era (olympic stadium)

and he was 0-2 vs. Atlanta with 7.11 era

Good Luck ... :D

at home- 7.14 era (olympic stadium) Home is no longer Olympic Stadium

and he was 0-2 vs. Atlanta with 7.11 era Far too small a sample to draw any definite conclusions except in extreme instances. Plus ERA is the worst stat to look at. In 12.2 IP vs Atlanta he struck out a whopping 17 hitters and help them to a .229 BA. So why the poor ERA? A huge 12 walks and 2 HR. So while he won't whiff 17 in 12.2 again, he also won't walk 12.

The biggest risk with Patterson is not so much performance but health. Where I am more likely to get burned is if he doesn't make 25 more starts. I am confident enough that if he makes them, I'll get my money's worth.

To be fair, just as 12.2 IP in 2004 is too small a sample, a 7 IP performance in the rain against a team in a slump is also too small a sample to draw any definite conclusions.

That said, I'LL TAKE IT!!!!!!

Now if Cordero can work out of this jam, we'll get a W as well.

I love my XM radio.

Yeah, but that's three good starts for Patterson and he seems to have overcome his control problems. Cordero just blew the save, damn.

Whoa, I'm mistaken. I thought the run scored on that base hit, still have a shot at the win.

Go Braves! We will take them anyway we can get them. How long will the Nats stick with Guzman?
