Greg/Tom:

1. Will owners be allowed to have laptops plugged into outlets during the draft?

2. Will owners be allowed to have laptops plugged into outlets during breaks?

3. Is there a standard format for draft facilitators to announce picks?

4. According to the rules, “There will be a 1-minute time limit for each owner to make his/her pick during each round of the NFBC draft.” When does the 1-minute timer start (once the previous player’s sticker is applied to the draft board and the facilitator says you’re on the clock)?

5. Will all facilitators be made aware of your answers to the above questions?

6. Will draft-day player stickers be color-coated to correspond to NFBC position eligibility?

Thanks in advance for your time.

As an addendum to Gekko's questions concerning electricity, are owners allowed to bring portable power generators into the draft room?

Thanks in advance for your time. 1. We will NOT have outlets available for the NFBC drafts. You can use a laptop, but bring a strong battery.

2. Yes, you can recharge your batteries during the breaks. I guess it's first-come, first-serve on the outlets in the room, but we're not paying for electricity outlets in any of the cities, so there's no guarantee that there will even be power there. That's in the control of the hotels.

3. Yeah, "Team 1 is on the clock...Team 1 picks Alex Rodriguez, Shortstop."

4. It starts once the sticker is properly secured on the 6-foot draft board.

5. No, we'll tell every other one. Of course as we meet with each facilitator in each city before the draft and go over the rules. We even e-mail a Word document to each facilitator well before Draft Day.

6. They are color-coded according to FJ Fantasy Sports as they don't make special ones for us. It's possible they will have Fielder as a first baseman, I don't know. We'll address those situations as they happen.

Thanks for your time.

Greg, I hope you realize that 10 years from now I will STILL be bothering you about this. Kind of like Tom with Clinton Portis--although we all know how that one turned out! ;)

1. Will owners be allowed to have laptops plugged into outlets during the draft?

2. Will owners be allowed to have laptops plugged into outlets during breaks?

ANSWERS

So it's first come, first serve for outlets. Does that mean (As some did in 'Vegas the last two years) it's okay to bring extension cords and hook up to outlets for use during the Draft if you have the fore thought to do so. Or does everyone run on battery power when the draft is on?

My suggestion would be to arrive early for check in, before the doors open. Prepare for a Stampede (At least a Helmet), be ready to defend your outlet(If you secure one) and post a guard at it.

OR

Battery power only during the draft. It isn't a level playing field if some "Who want outlet power" get it and others don't. There was confusion on this issue last year (In Vegas. Some got continuos power and others didn't and thought that it wasn't allowed. So if it's first come first serve I think I'll bring my "Super Splash Water Rifle" pump it up to Max Pressure and hose the competion at the break. "Let'er Buck, Boys."

Let's make the rule crystal clear. Can you connect to outlets for use During the Draft or NOT!!?!! Answer one doesn't spell it out clearly enough. And if some one gets caught doing it, What happens??

This is hilarious! Truly some of the funniest stuff I've read on these boards in some time. I can't wait to see how Greg responds to this post. Super Splash Water Rifle?!? LMAO!!!

As Homer J. Simpson once said, "It's funny because it's true."

the post is funny stuff, but it won't be funny if some folks are plugged in at one city and other folks are told they can't plug in at another city.
At your drafting position, you may have, 1 mag, 2 pencils, 1 blank piece of paper, 1 drink in paper cup, 1 cap on head, and zero laptops! You must draft from memory!

In 'Vegas (I was there), people plugged into outlets and when it was questioned it wasn't addressed and the draft went on. Let's not have this happen again. Let's get it staight. You want a name. Todd Zola. Sat next to me. Had a long extension cord and had a power strip. That ended the talk about it in our league as everyone who wanted power got it. I thought it was against the rules but that's what happened. Will this happen again this year? I'm trying to prevent it with these posts. So Greg, WHAT it IS BRO?

or do I Pump and Load
I do not think it is funny or people are whining- one set of rules for everyone. I personally do not use a laptop at the draft. But if there is one spot available, one guy should not get an advantage because he plugged in first.

Also glad to welcome King of Queens back to this board- if only DYV would show back up too...

Good luck this season KOQ- steal a few players from Gekko for me.

My suggestion is to allow:

1) laptops,

2) 100ft extension cords,

3) silent power generators and uninterruptible power supplies, and especially

4) encourage everyone fight it out for whatever outlets are available.

Has anyone ever had a laptophead that was "breaking the law" with a rogue outlet win their league?

Personally, I think it distracts them, creates inner conflict and lulls into a false sense of security and passivity.

To all the non-laptop players - don't fight the ambiguity, encourage it --- free drafting software for everyone !

These guys are right -- the rules should be the same in every city for the main event. I was able to use an outlet-powered laptop at the New York Hilton throughout the draft last year, and no one had any complaints (at least none that I know of). Afterwards, I heard about the restrictions put on some owners in certain cities. Not cool.

Oh, one more thing: Are "Kevin D" and "KJ Duke" one and the same?

I do recall the controversy after last year's draft. It may sound funny to some now but just wait.

I'm not a laptop person but I have no problem if others use them. Because some rooms may have power and others not, I would suggest a rule that no external power is allowed. All facilitators would be made aware of this. Use laptops if you want them but no external power. If this is the hard and fast rule, everyone will be playing on a similar playing field.

anybody caught using a laptop will be promptly thrown into the Hudson. (laptop, not the person). Vegas/Chi/Fla can figure out their own punishments.

I'd like to propose a rule that we not allow guns of any type into the draft.

maybe people should give the Cranktop a whirl. Battery running low? Couple cranks and you're back in business.
If anyone here has ever taken the CFA exam, you'll recall how ridiculous the rules are. Based on the laptop "controversy," we may have to adopt some of these things:

(1) Cell phones are not allowed in the testing room

(2) Only two types of calculators are permitted, the Texas Instruments BAII and the HP 12C

(3) Must present a current/valid government-issued photo ID

(4) Exam ticket, photo ID, calculator, and writing instruments must be kept on desk at all times

(5) The following items can be kept in your pockets or in a transparent plastic bag stored under your chair: wallet, erasers, batteries, pencil sharpeners, eyeglasses, earplugs, medicine, tissues, food, beverages

(6) Items that are specifically NOT permitted:

(a) baggage of any kind such as backpacks, handbags, totebags, briefcases, or luggage

(b) study materials including notes, papers, textbooks, or study guides

(c) scratch paper, present/future value tables, or calculator manuals

(d) highlighters, correction fluid/tape, or rulers

(e) cellular telephones, cameras, pagers, headsets, computers, electronic organizers, PDAs, or any other remote communication or photographic devices
