Main Event Rule Scenario ??

Greg---Since only players on the 40 man rosters are eligible to be drafted, If an owner selects a player who isn't on the 40 man list does the time reset to a full minute or does he get passed over when the currently "Running Minute"

expires?

Kevin, in that event we'll give the owner a 30-second "mulligan" to make a new pick.

Any cases last year where an owner jumped in and took a player because the guy before him timed out.

I'll never come close, but someone could blurt out some player not on the list just to buy some more time.

In the leagues I've been in, several guys timed out due to no pick and a few because they selected a player or players already taken (shame on them). But, no one "jumped the gun" and picked a player quickly. They have a facilitor dedicated to running the clock and they put you on the clock and call the overruns. They have done a particularliy good job in my expeirences.

My inquiry was to clarify because last year any player, in any league, at any level could be taken. With the change to only those players on the forty man rosters being eligible there could be some confusion on Draft Day as to who actually is on the 40 man. I assume the final judgement as to who is actually on the 40 man will be made prior to the Draft and the facilitators will have a goodhandle on it.

Greg-- Perhaps an alphabetical list of all players presently on 40 man's could be made available in the near future. If there are changes made by Major league clubs prior to the draft they would be announced as updates. On draft day the Auctioneer or one of the facilators should, in every league, have the official list of who's eligible to be drafted and at what positions.

P.S. The updates should include the player taken off the 40 man roster as well as those added.

It'll be a courtesy thing John. In the unlikely event that it happens frequently (and I really don't believe that will happen) we won't allow a mulligan for every pick. The facilitators will be instructed to tell people they will be passed if they continue to make ineligible picks.

Kevin, all of our facilitators will have our list of eligible players. We are also going to provide that list for all of our NFBC participants so everyone will have a copy.

We'll make a point to emphasize the 40-man lists in all cities. Make sure you know who's on them and all that. I really don't view this as a problem and I don't think it will be something that will cause an issue in our drafts and auctions.

I know that Greg mentioned on another thread that certain players NOT on the 40-man rosters would be included in the draft lists. This would include unsigned veterans (Roger Clemens), minor league contract NRI's who look likely to make the major league squad (Ray Lankford in 2004 was an example of this), and certain top prospects who are not on their teams' 40-man rosters.

Hopefully we get this list at least a week in advance of the draft date. Somehow I have the feeling that Tom and Greg will make this happen, thereby keeping the proverbial can of worms on the shelf.

Yup, our plan is to send out the 40-man rosters and our list of additional players who will be eligible (such as Clemens) before the draft. We're holding off on compiling that list for as long as we can for obvious reasons. But we will e-mail that to everyone in advance of the draft and we will have copies in each city for all of our participants as well.
