NY Mixed Auction

greg - i'm debating getting in the NY mixed auction ($650). since auctions need different prep than a regular draft, i'll be watching the signups for this league to see if it gets close to filling. obviously the sooner it gets to filling the more likely i am to sign up for it (gives more prep time). other owners may be in the same boat.

any thoughts to asking the owners in the $1,250 Mixed Auction League (1 owner) and the $650 NL Auction League (2 owners) to switch? if so, when do you think such a move would be made?

$650 Mixed Auction League:

1. Jim Bores, Flemington, New Jersey

2. George Mitola, East Hanover, New Jersey

3. Harry Mirijanian, Pomona, New York

4. Michael Pizzuto, Valhalla, New York

5. David Dorfman, Marlboro, New Jersey

$650 NL Auction League:

1. David Zwickel, New York City (would do $1,250 NL league or any mixed auction league)

2. Steve Lerner, Poughkeepskie, NY

$1,250 Mixed Auction League:

1. Michael Lins, Hillsborough, New Jersey

It's amazing that the NY baseball auctions dont get filled. The 2004 season [which i won ] was 1250.00 , then last year we just made enough for a 650.00 league , i was signed up for the 1250.00 , but we only had 4. So we came down to the 650.00. That's the one big reason im going to VEGAS , BECAUSE of the 1250.00 league is no problem man.AND of course to meet greg.IT'S pretty sad if NY doesnt get an auction of some type together. IF this happens i will be going to VEGAS every year.KING get in new york needs you.

It's amazing that the NY baseball auctions dont get filled.Not a surprise really. Most NY participants are locals so it'd require a day off from work to attend friday's activities. If they're coming from a distance (3 hours) they may leave early sat morn to avoid a costly fri night room stay.

Even if work is not an issue, maybe 1/2 those on the fence are spending the day soaking up the NCAA tourney.

Gordon, I don't want to speak for Greg but I can say we'll definitely explore all of the options at our disposal if we come up short of a full league in New York. The same holds true for Chicago and Tampa. We'd love to have at least one full auction league in all of those cities so hopefully we'll have a strong run in these final couple of weeks to get there. But we'll start making contingency plans in case it appears we won't be able to fill a full league.

If your talking auction , and asking me 2004 NY auction champ , is the competition weaker.I would say last year and this year that VEGAS will be harder to win.They will be lucky to put a auction league together , this year in NY. BUT in VEGAS they filled up a 1250.00 two months ago.If i was in NY THIS year i would like my chances.I can see why gordon is thinking of playing the auction this year in NY, and the KING should get in for he would be the favorite.

I would put money on him, againest anyone , in NEW YORK.

I agree, i am surprised at the lack of interest in the auction leagues in General (especially NY)...2 years ago i was pushing the main event to auction style, but this clearly would not be a popular thing...i have been doing auctions for years and i think it involves way more SKILL and preparation then serpentine drafts...less luck involved (although i know they added kentucky derby style draft selection in satellites to lessen the Luck factor) ... i wanted mixed Auction but got bumped to AL only (blah) last year...i would like to do mixed NY if i knew it would fill...especially would like to do it if Gekko was there!! Gonna miss you in NY this year Eddie, good luck in Vegas and stay out of casinos! SEE you all tomorrow at sateliite (#3 pick will be a shocker)!!!!!!

We're also surprised that the pace to fill up an auction in NY has been slow thus far. We've always had at least one auction in NY and there's still plenty of time for that to happen. So if we have some fence-sitters out there, hop to it.

And Gordon, I hope whatever unfortunate news received is nothing of a personal or family nature and everything is all right.

IVE seen the KING OF QUEENS the last couple years in baseball , and ive always liked his drafts.He's always one step ahead , especially on young talent.He stole a couple players from me in the 1st auction, and just was up on what everybody was doing , and how much everybody else had. He was the only guy at the draft with a labtop, and i had my eye on him right from the get go.I still remember his last pick in the reserves joe blanton, i never heard of him.

You had the right guy , just off a couple years.

KING OF QUEENS a huge favorite , 50% to land in the money.Did you see the article last year on the draft for value, i cant remember who did it , but guess who was rated nu 1. THATS RIGHT the KING.

Thanks for the endorsement, Eddie. I've had some tough breaks in baseball the last couple of years--mostly in the relief pitcher department. Perhaps I'll go with the "Triple AAA" strategy and take my first closer (Rocky Biddle) in the 18th round. At least I won't get burned then...

With the new laptop/electricity enforcement this year, I'm going to need to bring both of my laptops (and a spare battery or two) to the draft this year
