Auction vs. Draft Question

Post by superfly72 » Fri Feb 24, 2006 7:51 am

From reading the rules, it looks to me like in an auction league, each team has to fill its 23 or 24-man roster so that it can field a legal lineup by the end of the auction (i.e. if you have only a C spot open and one dollar left, you must draft a catcher with it and cannot wait until the reserve snake draft to pick one up), while in draft leagues you could take any player you wanted in the above scenario, as long as you choose a catcher in the reserve round to complete your lineup.

Is this an actual difference between the two types of leagues, or have I misread the rules? Thanks in advance for your help.

In Auctions the roster must be correct at the end of the 23 position auction and then the reserves are drafted. I

I'm sure Greg/Tom will check in on this but this is my understanding.

Little wrinkle there and you caught it.

Kevin is correct. That is how our rules are set up. For the auction you need to have your 23 positions filled and then we will have a serpentine draft to pick the reserve rosters. For the draft, you have the entire 30 rounds to fill out your legal roster.

Excellent - thanks for the quick answer! That's actually how the private auction I'm used to works as well, so I just wanted to make sure I was on the same page.
