Hey Greg & Tom:

I want to bid on guys tonight that have officially made the roster but they are not in the player pool yet because STATS has not updated the site. What should I do?

I had the same question, if a pitcher is in the rotation for his team and pitching this week, how can he not be listed in the free agent pool?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Eric This is EXACTLY!! what Walla Walla is complaining about( See his " 3 years and STATS still XXXXX's ? Thread.) STATS falls down on DETAILS! on more than a few occasions every year. Their answer will be, If a player isn't in the pool he isn't eligible. He'll be there some point. You can bid on him then. OF course!! the owners who were unaware he had made the team, or who own a player who goes on the DL or plays poorly during the week might be bidding then. STATS answer is " Sorry, TOO BAD. We're doing our best. We'll try not to let it happen again."

Be advised that it is "Probaly" an NFBC wide problem on the player in question. There is a player I'm interested in(NY #1) who isn't on the list. If he isn't there by 5:00 PM EST he isn't going to be there. He's on the "Forty Man Rosters" handout given to everyone on Draft Day. You can bring him up from a search on the site but he isn't availble for pickup. (I"ll check again now that it's after 5 O'clock.)

Walla Walla threatens to quit often. He never does but some of his protests are valid and this is a prime example. Gotta Go and Check. After the 7:00 pm deadline I'll post again. With the player in questions name.

The player I'd like to bid on is Sean Marshall, Pitcher, Chicago Cubs. He's listed on the "Forty Man Rosters" handed out. He's not listed on a team roster in my league. BUT!! he is not available for bid in NY#1.

First Strike of the Season for STATS. Hey Walla, What's the over/under for STATS screw ups this year??

I don't it is stats all the time. As a team annouces a player will start in the big leagues, they might not process the transaction through the league main office until the day of their first game. Sometimes it will work to your advantage. You were all gong ho to blow your wad. A week later after the player gets bombed, you say what the hell was I thinking......oh well...good luck to all!!!

I believe CCs has it right: A pitcher or hitter with no MLB experience won't be eligible until they actually play in a game.

It's when the player is offially recalled that matters.

That, and when STATS says it's okay.

Actually, this is consistent with all last year. When a player was called up within 24 hours of the FAAB deadline their name wasn't listed. It seems there is a waiting period to not rush players to the faab list.

If you consider opening day is the first day that these "new" players are available, then having them delayed until next week is consistent.

Oh.??? I thought it was the "Forty Man Rosters" with the ""Eligble Free Agents/Non-Roster Invitees" That were sent to us by email and handed out on Draft Day that established a players rostering status. Sean Marshall is on that list??? So the rules aren't clear. Great!!! Unclear Rules. I QUIT!!!

P.S. The above is my Walla Walla impersonation.

You guys are too much sometimes. The 40-man rule, if you remember, was put in this year because a few teams tried the all Class A starting rotation theory. We had to use the 40-man rule because of that one, so hold onto your britches for a bit.

If a non-roster invitee made the team, he will be added to the free agent pool tomorrow for Week 2 pickups. We were NOT going to add all kinds of players to the free agent pool today, a few hours before FAAB was due. We heard Walla Walla and others complain in Year One when a free agent was added an hour before the cutoff and this is why I told STATS NOT to add a bunch of players to the pool today. The players you want who are now officially on MLB rosters can be picked up next week when everyone has a fair shot at them.

And would everyone STOP bitching at STATS. Just call me out and I'll be fine with your complaints. I'm running this event and telling STATS what to do and they are following my directions perfectly. We had to use 40-man rosters, we chose not to add new players at the last minute for free agent pickups, and FAAB seemed to go well tonight. So good luck this season and good luck next week getting the new free agents you want.

Marshall was on the "40 Man" of the Cubs. It's not you Greg. It's STATS. I'm sure you've spelled it out for them. Probably several times. You're a thorough guy. It ain't you Pal!!!
