Okay, we just went thru a 15 team, 30 round satellite draft where we picked the bones off of the major league rosters, selecting players that may not even see the major leagues this year.



My question for those who have been doing this longer and are more proficiently than I, .....what are we going to do with FAAB dollars? How many possible free agents will pop up during the year and how much can you actually improve your team (as trades are not available)?



Can a guy who really missed out on SBs or saves make up for it in the FA market? To what extent?

Is this allottment for September call-ups?

Faab is VERY valuable. Plenty of playersd will pop up throughout the season

Every year there are 4-5 new closers whose name are not on anyone's team. Also, there will be rookies called up early who suddenly star. On the Dodgers alone, Kemp, Ethier and Looney all were bid on. Two years ago, I got the Nats Patterson using FAAB. Going into the season, he wasn't worth diddly

I will take your word for it on the closers.

Its just difficult to believe since it seemed that we drafted not only closers, but set up men who would be heir to closers and guys who aren't even considered primary setup men!

Guys who were for sure on the waiver wire: David Ross (20hr catcher!), Jeff Baker, Ryan Garko? Sadly I didn't pick up Kevin Youklis .



I was lucky enought to draft Hanley Ramirez and Brad Hawpe, but were they taken in all leagues??

[/QUOTE]Here's a few more that helped me in addition to 5 of the guys above, Marcus Thames, Ty Wigginton, Jose Valentin, El Duque, Mike Napoli, just to name a few. While these guys aren't studs by any means, they were definitely helpful to my team throughout the season.

Bronson Arroyo

I got Anabail Sanchez and Salomon Torres with FAAB money during the 2nd half of the year. The wins, saves, ERA, etc. were very valuable.

Adam Wainwright and Woody Williams. Team still sucked though...

I picked up Cuddyer, Durham, Glavine and even Derrek Lee later in the season also. Maicier Izturis was a big help when he was playing regularly. Really depends on the league, but it is important to remember it is not just guys out there after the draft. Every time an owner has to pick someone up, he also has to drop someone. Those guys often have a lot of value. I dropped Arroyo last year!



I think my first year I thought no one would be on FAAB. I even think I tried running numbers in my head to figure how many regulars would be left and it seemed hopeless. But you realize pretty quick that there are more guys you want to pick up than you have room on your roster for, and the biggest problem is trying to pick up guys you are sure you need but have no room for.



As for closers, think of all the guys last year that served as closer at some point last year who were not the original closer or set up man at the beginning of the year (hint: start with the Indians). Unfortunately, closers go for the most FAAB, so they are not exactly easy to pick up with FAAB, no matter what Shandler says!
