Birthday or Peavy????

I just realized my favorite pitcher, Peavy, is going to be pitching this Wednesday against the Rays. It is also my daughters 2nd birthday. I have a question, do I dare ask my wife to go to the game?? She is usually understanding when it comes to things like this, but I was wondering if it was out of line. Any thoughts?? Thanks for any insight, especially from those married with children.

Having become an "empty-nester" just yesterday (with my daughter going off to college), I would walk through hot coals to be able to spend her second birthday with her again! It's not your wife you need to worry about -- it's your 20 years from now self!

Peavy will be back in town.

Your daughter celebrating her birthday...opening gifts...but when looking around at all the happy faces...not finding Daddy's smiling face in the crowd would be sad.

Family first. Peavy could care less who you are...your daughter thinks you can pitch better than Peavy!

Oh, I'm not going to miss anything, wouldn't think of that. I was just wondering if it was PC to not be with her the entire afternoon/evening. I get off work at 2pm at the latest and being a supervisor allows me to leave earlier if needed. I spoke with my wife about it tonight and she gave me the OK, just as long as I got off early enough for us to go to Chuckie-Cheese's.

MGK...I'm with my kids every single night and weekend since my wife and I work opposite schedules. I truly am a Mr. Mom so I can feel where you are coming from. Our son is already 10 and it seems like yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital. :(

BTW, Lance...unless Peavy goes to an AL team, I doubt he will be in town again for a long time. I've been tempted to drive down to a Marlins game to watch him play, but haven't yet. And I wouldn't dare miss the opening of the presents considering I picked them out myself!

Thanks you two. Gotta love having a wonderful spouse, don't you think?

It's guaranteed to get you on the jumbotron anyway :D

Q, the thought entered my mind to take the entire family, but my son isn't a big sports fan and my wife is 9 months pregnant so I didn't think they would make it. BTW, with only a few 1,000 fans in attendance, I think we all get a chance to be on the jumbotron!

It was funny, a few years ago at a Rays game, the biggest applause I heard the entire game was when they showed a big breasted lady on the tron.

I avoid going to Peavy games here in SD, all of my fantasy hitters tend to have bad nights against him which makes for an unhappy experience. I like to plan my Padre games around David Wells' schedule.

Bring her and a few of her friends to the game. Most parks give you the chance to see YOUR name ON the jumbotron with a note, usually for a donation to the teams charity.

You get to see the game and your daughter gets quality time with pops AND gets to see HER name, with a birthday wish for all to see. She may remember that birthday for a long time.

Since your wife is that far along it may be better for her if the party is held at the ballpark?

Best of both worlds and a solution for the good of all concerned?

"Oh, I'm not going to miss anything, wouldn't think of that."

Well...that kind of brings the first post to a screeching halt.

"I was just wondering if it was PC to not be with her the entire afternoon/evening."

Screw worrying about PC...PC is for the birds.

Spend the day with your daughter. Those times are short-lived. You have baseball the rest of your life.

GLY...what did you end up doing?

I saw Peavy shut down the Brewers memorial day weekend. he was great, but i think we ALL missed the most important sentences in your post...my wife already gave me the ok...she's 9 months pregnant...do not have any kids yet, but can imagine my girlfriend's reaction to asking about going to a baseball game when she's nine month pregnant and/or it's our kid's birthday party...

I get read the riot act for asking to stay home and watch a game if we had "big" plans like going to the mall or her mom's or out to dinner...

Well, what can I say, I just try to pick a restaurant that will be televising a game... :D

GLY, you better keep her! :D

Thanks SPY. The new addition arrived Monday morning at 6:32 am.

BIG GIRL....9 lbs. 11 oz & 22 inches long

My wife delivered her without a c-section!

BTW, I went to the game and Peavy was fantastic as usual. It's amazing to watch someone who knows how to pitch. He barely missed the plate the entire evening and as usual, Jackson was barely missing the bats.

And my daughter is still alive even though I wasn't with her during the evening of her b-day. She gets b-day love everyday of the week so it definitely wasn't a big deal. I'm currently trying to teach her how to pitch out of the bullpen so she can help the Rays after the break!
