He has been shut down for the season. Can he be moved out of a starting lineup on Friday?

Just so you know.. the information was out there that he might be shut down.

Shields is tentatively scheduled to start four more times for the Devil Rays this season (with the next one coming up Sunday at home against Toronto), but the Rays have previously hinted they'd like to max out Shields at about 215 innings, so there's a chance he may be shut down during the last week of the season. Shields got the win against Baltimore Monday and has now gone 3-2, 2.57 in his last seven starts (1.14 WHIP, 46:8 K:BB ratio in 49 innings), so he's certainly finishing strong

"I was pretty shocked," Shields said. "I knew I was coming up on those innings. But I was pretty shocked. I wasn't too happy with the decision, but it is what it is and there's nothing I can really do about it. They told me the day before I started, which is kind of weird to me. That's one of the reasons I was so shocked. I was getting my mind mentally prepared to start. And now I'm kind of in shutdown mode. So it's a whirlwind right now."

Ya, rotodumper knew, but shields didn't. hehe

That was a basketball analogy. Sorry that the DL rule is not convenient enough for you this time around.

Sorry, I see now that Viper complained and not you. Griffey is returning to Cincinnati to get examined tomorrow. We need a live video feed from the examination room.

This is from a Tampa Bay Paper and reported on Rotoworld and CBS Sportsline.

Shields shut down for season

ANAHEIM—A day before what was supposed to be his second-to-last start this season, James Shields was informed he won’t be pitching again in 2007. Just-recalled J.P. Howell will start tomorrow against the Angels and probably get two more starts to close the year.

On Griffey -- I heard they're going to evaluate him over the weekend. They want to get him to 600 just in case he decides to retire.
