Newbie Draft Question
Newbie Draft Question
I have joined Mock Draft Central to prepare for my first satellite and Vegas drafts. I have not come across the ability to bid on MDC. Will satellite drafts, using MDC, use the same bidding process as the site drafts?

2. Draft: Drafts will take place online at www.mockdraftcentral.com from Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Thursday, March 29.

Newbie Draft Question
That's my point. Are satellite drafts on MDC auction or by draft order?

Newbie Draft Question
Thanks for all the input guys. Perhaps I should wait to hear the big guys chime in. But, as a newbie, I've been impressed with NFBC thus far. I'm looking forward to Vegas!
Anyway . . . The rules for Sat leagues states "Drafts will take place online at www.mockdraftcentral.com from Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Thursday, March 29." but also states "Those owners participating in the NFBC Satellite Auction League, however, must spend their $260 budget on their 23 required starters and a 7-round serpentine draft will be held after that for the reserve rounds."
My objective for playing a Sat is to prepare myself for my first live auction draft. If a Sat won't help where else may I prepare myself?

Problems are rare, but they take of any that do happen so no worries. I've done several. Last years auction had a few bugs, but all was taken care of, fun stuff. I do recommend lots of practice before your real draft. It helps to get familar with the site and how to use everything. I forget most between years and need refreshers myself. Not to mention I think the drafts are useful. You will encounter some that don't fill or people that signed up don't show (not the real ones of course just practice) Aggrevating, but you can still get some useful stuff out of them even if it's just familiarity of the site. Good luck and good drafting.

Will satellite drafts, using MDC, use the same bidding process as the site drafts? The satellite leagues are drafts, styled exactly like the main event on Saturday, March 15th. They are 30 rounds, serpentine and you have 90 seconds per pick. Once you sign up for the NFBC main event, you'll get a free pass to MockDraftCentral.com to practice all you want there. I need to get our current list to MDC soon so that everyone gets set up for 2008.
The main event is a draft. The satellites are drafts. We do run one satellite auction league, but that is run on fantasyauctioneer.com. Live auctions don't have the overall grand prize and they are held on Friday, March 14th in all four cities.
I hope this explains things.

Newbie Draft Question
Colorado,
On the surface it would make sense to practice a lot on mock draft central. The practice IMO will do you good in preparing for satellite drafts from a logistics standpoint. It will do you zero good in preparing for the main event. 99% of all of all practice drafts have someone on auto pilot or more importantly 1 or 2 guys who would not be good enough to play in the main. You will get a false sense of security of where you can get value if you are not careful.
I know this will not be very popular with Greg but guys share satellite results with each other all day long try to get your hands on them as much as possible. In fact try for the higher dollar satellites b/c they are much more like the main event.
Ask a lot of questions to people on how they prepare and what they think is different in the main event.
Last but not least don't let the level of competition psyche you out- if you are good you are good no matter who you play against.

Newbie Draft Question
Greg's post was both helpful and disappointing as I had hoped to play Friday's mixed auction, but notice that I would also need to play the Main Event. This puts me over my playing budget. I've been playing $$ draft leagues for awhile and decided to leap into the auction format this year so I will play the satellite auction and two satellite drafts with the goal of earning my way into the 2009 Main Event.
Greg: I would love to play the Friday mixed auction in Vegas if you come up short!
BTW thanks for the heads up on FantasyAuctioneer. I'll start the learning process on auction drafts tomorrow.

Newbie Draft Question
I'm pretty sure you can do the Friday auctions without doing the main event. You might not get the perks like access to Mock Draft Central, but you should be able to enter the auctions independent of the Main Event.

Newbie Draft Question
Colorado, you can just do the Friday Mixed Auction League if you'd like without doing the main event. No problem there. If you have any further questions, contact me at [email protected]. We'll see ya in Vegas on Friday, March 14th!!!

Newbie Draft Question
Greg,
I have registered for the Friday Vegas $650 mixed (prefer 4 PM) and informed Tom (copied you) that I am available to work the 8 AM mixed auction. I look forward to both the commoraderie and the competition.
